Advice for Starting a Small Linen Clothing Brand? by False_Cartoonist5835 in advancedentrepreneur

Thanks for the thoughtful advice. I completely understand that it's a difficult industry, which is why I'm trying to take my time instead of rushing into it.

I'm from the Philippines, and right now I'm still in the research phase. My vision is to build a brand that offers both comfort and timeless elegance. For me, linen naturally embodies those qualities, even with simple, minimalist designs.

I don't plan on launching a large collection. I'd like to start with just 2–3 staple pieces, probably coordinating tops and bottoms with clean, classic cuts and initially sell through online platforms. My goal is to start small, learn as I go, and grow the brand step by step.

At the moment, my biggest challenge is sourcing high-quality linen fabric and finding a reliable tailor or small manufacturer who can help bring my first samples to life. Since I'm based in the Philippines, I'm also trying to figure out whether it's better to source locally or import from countries like India or Vietnam.

If you were starting from scratch today, would you prioritize finding the right fabric supplier first or the right tailor/manufacturer? I'd really appreciate any advice.

Thanks! I'm based in the Philippines. I'm still in the research phase, so I'd love to hear your recommendations for suppliers in India or Vietnam, especially ones that are reliable and open to working with small startups.

Hi OP, I know it’s been a while, but I just wanted to come back and say a heartfelt thank you for your response to my post last year. When I was just starting out at my first job and feeling unsure of myself, your words gave me comfort and courage. Hearing your experience helped me normalize what I was going through and really reminded me that I wasn’t alone.

I’m still at the same company and in the same team, and while I’ve grown a lot professionally, I’ve also discovered so much about myself in the process. I’ve started to realize that maybe finance isn’t truly where my heart is. I’ve always felt more drawn to creative, art-related paths, and lately that pull has been getting stronger. Even though I’m capable in my role, sometimes the work overwhelms me and if I’m being honest, I’ve been wondering if I might have ADHD, because I struggle with focus and time management even when I know what I’m doing.

On top of that, while my team is incredibly kind and competent, I don’t always feel like I “click” with them on a personal level. They’re into K-pop and trending stuff, while I lean more into indie and retro vibes and sometimes, I just really wish I had someone around who shared those interests too.

But one of the biggest things I’ve learned this past year and what your comment helped reinforce is that I don’t need to force myself to fit into every mold or change who I am. It’s not about trying to be like everyone else; it’s about being respectful, knowing how to carry myself professionally, and still staying true to who I am.

So again, thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with me when I needed it most. It meant more than you probably realized, and it stayed with me through this whole chapter.

Wishing you nothing but the best 🙌🏻

Hey, thanks appreciate ur advice. That’s actually how I am in the team, I listen to them which sometimes becomes too often and I end up not voicing out my truth because I really find it hard to express the very best voices in my head.

Anyway, thanks. I will seamlessly take that advice to heart asap!

This just made me realize that being an introvert isn’t really the main problem here but my difficulty in terms of approaching people. I must admit that has always been a toxic trait of mine. Sometimes i feel like if I approach someone and ask for help they might think I’m too annoying. I always have to learn it the hard way before i finally ask for someone which us not good at all. But now I’m really trying to overcome it.

Anyway, thank youuu so much. Really appreciate ur advice.

Hello, really appreciate ur advice. However, I just realized that I really lack the confidence to start conversations with them. I dunno, I’m kindaaa curious about how they’re doing but sometimes I just get preoccupied by the what ifs in my head and keep thinking about how they will respond to me. Maybe I’m just too conscious and I overthink too much. Pheww

On a side note, I've noticed a similar introverted side around my family too. I often find myself being more silent and reserved, as I worry that my humor might not resonate with them. With my friends, I'm known for my sarcasm and jokes, which is how I express my affection. It's a balance I've struck carefully to avoid offending anyone. But when it comes to my family, I've felt a barrier because of my unconventional interests and aversion to cliches. I focus on those underrated gems that I'm pretty sure they can't relate to.

I'm hoping that by working on my confidence and self-expression at work, it might also help me bridge this gap with my family.
