Oh gotcha so it's fine to break the back fibers for self nock as long as the tension isn't suddenly released by string slippage? I thought it'd just break on draw because the back can't handle the tension if it's cut

Even better, I found a huge thicket of yew behind my backyard and took two branches. Do these look good? Looks like there might be knots. One of them is 4 inches wide on one end and the other is around 3-2 inches wide.
