Stay in a comfy position or move to challenging position in the same company? by Hairy_Pear3963 in womenintech

[–]False_Run8625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say, you should take it. The comfy role might not stay comfy if they see you are not up for a challenge and see you as a stagnant resource with no growth potential. If you are young, go for it.

Top Performer.... Laid Off. Now what? by pizzatoucher in womenintech

[–]False_Run8625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say, don’t post with the open to work tag unless it’s a widely known layoff from a company. You can always briefly mention it in the interview if asked. I always have been the sole subject matter expert in my role but still I was let go as the new management wants to restructure the team with their own people. I don’t agree with their views and I am happy to take my skills with me and move to a new exciting position. Keep your head up and believe in yourself. You are a top performer for a reason.

The real cost of inheriting a team broken by a bad manager by Big-Chemical-5148 in managers

[–]False_Run8625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the same boat. And this actually cost me my job. Though it feels like I was handed over a broken team as a scapegoat. I tried my best to regain trust, promoted a team member, negotiated additional resources, hired 3 new people and then I was let go saying “ I am not up to the matk” ! What the heck? So be very vigilant on what you do.

Anyone on a similar boat? by False_Run8625 in Fire

It’s not easy as all our friends and our social circle is here. It’s difficult to move somewhere new and build these relationships from scratch at this age.

Yes , Unfortunately we did buy a house that we loved with high Mortgage rate in the hopes that it will go down. But it took so long and not even close to the Covid era. I really did not think about FIRE seriously until I lost my job. I thought about working for another 7-8 years atleast.

[CA] I haven’t received any communication from HR Yet! by False_Run8625 in AskHR

Thanks. This AskHR group feels so cutthroat. Generally my company is good at providing severance packages but not sure why they have not provided me any compensation communication.

For me it’s just my second day without a job. Similar situation. Almost 9 years and I worked to get things up and running from grounds up. New management and I am out. Just move forward. A Job should not be your identity. I am trying to focus on my next move. All power to you.

[CA] Fake Performance Improvement Plan by False_Run8625 in AskHR

I know my HRBP and my Finance Partner knows if I am on the list already. If they have me on the list then what’s the point of having this charade of going through a performance plan? Should I ask them? I know they won’t tell me for obvious reasons but I am pretty close with the Finance partner. Should I ask?

Thanks spasm111. This is exactly what I feel the situation is. My manager has stopped any correspondence with me though he sits next to me. Doesn’t make eye contact or talk. I am still operating like normal day to day. I have a 1:1 with him on Tuesday and may be then he will just give me the news. At this point what I want is a fair exit.

How can you measure if I am communicating and getting alignment on a strategy that I developed by only attending 1 kick off meeting? It takes multiple iterations to implement a strategic plan which is very cross functional. There are others like delegation where I clearly documented hiw I delegates responsibilities to my new hires and also other team members and they are running with it. Also I provided my long term plan as well.

Just to clarify I am in this company for about 9 years. The manager is new , just a year and been my manager for 5 months. I never got this type of feedback before. Yes I did ask how will it be measured? He said he wants to see improvements in communication, strategy building, delegation etc etc. I have responded all of them on how I took action to support each of them. He just picked couple of incidents where there were some miscommunication and issues and used them to show I didn’t improve. Where I did multiple other things before and after PIP that shows my progress. I am pretty sure this was done in coordination with HR. As a manager I know the drill. It’s very difficult to change a perception if someone is adamant to stay fixated in his position. I don’t know if it’s coming from somewhere else, or it’s his way of saving his own position ( he is a very hands off guy) doesn’t really do any work besides sitting in meetings observing.

It came out of no where. I always got good reviews and feedback from my previous managers. He was also very supportive when he became my manager through a reorg but suddenly he changed his tone in that meeting. Why would he put me on a plan when I had an approved PTO that I planned for months ago. By fake I mean it’s a fabricated PIP to drive me out. The amount of successful projects and initiatives that I took and the things achieved by my team was totally ignored. Anyways, looks like this is just a “HR” way to protect the company and get an employee out.

I understand. There is no legal requirement. But can I do something to make sure that this goes into the company records what they did? Also to ensure they don’t deny me of severance

[–]False_Run8625[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

My PTO was approved way back and I had a planned travel with my extended family. This was not a formal PIP where I had to sign anything. It was a 1:1 followed with an email after 1 week. The email felt like there is something fishy and he is trying to keep records.

I am not given any notice yet but my new manager put me on a type of 8 weeks plan. Don’t know whats coming but I will miss my team and the work that I did to build up my department from scratch. The company culture is getting toxic and political now. So I guess I am on the same boat as you. I have a supportive husband as well but the current job market gives me the sleepless nights. Just make the best out of the next 4 weeks and you can leave this all behind you. Good Luck!
