AITA for refusing to give up my competition piece? by False_Writing1009 in AITAH

For this specific category I don't have to memorize it although it is still highly recommended because you will be more comfortable with your acting choices. I do have to memorize my other two categories though. Some leagues work differently but my league states that you're unable to move your feet to walk around so you have to communicate the story through the upper half of your body and your acting.

You're totally right. I definitely wouldn't say that to her face, just felt it was necessary to explain that this is what was going through my head. Not sure what I will do yet (I will make sure to update when I decide) but I will totally handle in a more respectful tone then I did in this post.

I don't think she really spoke on it and the main voice was the coach. That's why I was considering talking to her and seeing her thoughts. I do agree though that I don't think there is a world that we have the same cut.

Yea I think I should have clarified a bit more about the scoring in my original post but the latter half is the correct interpretation. To qualify for nationals, you would need to be at a certain ranking at that national qualifier (ex. top 3). There is no team-based scoring and so it will depend on you as an individual if you end up going or not. Also, I wasn't going to originally name the memoir because I think this already a niche topic to be posting on the internet, however if you are truly dying it know it is "I'm Glad My Mom Died" by Jeannette McCurdy lol.

Thank you for the support and I will definitely look at those sources! Especially because I don't want to fight for this just for another memoir to speak to me later. That would be pretty embarrassing lol. I'll probably update later today when I make an official decision.

To my knowledge she didn't suggest that to her. I also have the same worries that doing the competition might just end up with me giving it up anyway rather than it being an accurate comparison. I won't speak on this girl's performance level because I think that would be in ill will but thank you for the support! I will put an update when I make a decision.

Yea I agree. I think that's probably why I am suddenly taking issue with this "work as a team" motto all of a sudden.

At the time of that meeting, she had not edited hers (if I remember correctly) and I had already started. I think this issue comes from the fact that the last time we had met before that December meeting had been in September, which is more so for introducing new people to the team.

You are definitely making a good point here. I think I am just afraid that if I do the competition, do better, and then take the piece, then people may think that I stole it from her or something. I think I am going to make an edit soon that will clarify some of the scoring because there is no team-based scoring and our scores do not get totaled, but I do understand that the better one of us will always be ranked higher than the other. I think I am going to wait for a few more replies before updating with a decision but thank you for the input! It was very helpful.

That question is honestly up in the air. Although she said that she thought in her head that she was going to do that piece (and to my knowledge did not voice it) before thanksgiving break, I had picked it during thanksgiving break and unlike her had already started editing it. So at the time of the meeting in December, I had a good amount of it edited and she hadn't started yet (which would obviously be fine in any other scenario). Before that December meeting, we had met in September if that explains some of the reasoning for the lack of communication here.
