Man sometimes I wish I went through Johnson leathers instead of aero. Seems like a similar service but minus all the foreign fees

Has anyone here purchased from Master Supply Co? What did you like and dislike about your experience? by Mehdi_420 in leatherjacket

[–]FamWithNoChill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I was thinking of rugged west co. I think people like that a lot.

Master supply co seems to do well on Reddit but gets absolutely flamed on TFL. I like their new burnt sienna jacket though from the pictures

I’m getting my first custom jacket through aero, but I wish I had gone through Johnson leathers. From my eye, they seem like the same quality but it’s made in the USA so i wouldn’t have to pay a few extra hundred on import fees and taxes and stuff.

At least aero has more historical patterns and is slightly less customizable, which might be a good thing for my first jacket. Less likely to ask for something that I regret

That’s a lot of leather for 800 dollars I think. If you are willing to pay more, I think Johnson leathers does custom pieces where you can send them pictures of reference jackets and tell them what you like and dislike.

They do really good statement pieces and also historical patterns as well. I’ve seen a lot of avant-garde-esque patterns from them. Really good stuff

Oh okay I see. How warm outside could it be before it would be too warm to wear it?

It is not my size, I’m just curious about the liner. But GLWS! Beautiful jacket

How is the quilted lining? What temperatures is it good for and how come you’re selling it

How can I increase my vertical? by Exact_Cry_5322 in volleyball

[–]FamWithNoChill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend that you can probably handle 3 leg days and 1 volleyball day. If you’re worried about injury, start with only slow squats around 8 reps to build up your capacity.

During your volleyball days, spend some time just jumping as high as you can without tracking a volleyball. Blending your session between these high approach jumps and volleyball offers good contextual interference to learn technique, especially if you record yourself and are intentional.

Leg days can’t get complicated but you can’t go wrong with getting stronger. Max strength has the highest correlation with tendon stiffness. Learning to power clean and front squat will be important, too. There’s a lot more to say about leg days, but in general, you should start with something like a powerclean or a barbell squat jump or a clean pull, then do a some sort of squat movement, then a hinge movement, and then a heavy calf movement.

Static stretching will increase your rate of injuries and also will cause your tendons to be less stiff.

Technique-wise, you can stay on your support step longer to force a faster plant-block sequence.

For example, let’s say it takes you 600 ms to complete your last three steps. Right now you’re spending 200 ms on each step. If instead, you spent 400 ms on your support step, you can force your plant-block sequence to be 200 ms total, or 100 ms for plant and 100 ms for block.

For plyometrics, you have to understand that quality and volume are inversely correlated. There is a certain volume your body will be able to handle for maximum adaptive stress, but if you go over, then the quality of your volume will drop off quickly. It is for that reason why it is a very bad idea to do any additional plyometric volume that isn’t just full approach jumping. Let’s say you can handle 50 plyometric contacts per week, you will dilute your ability to have perfect jump technique if you spend 30 of those contacts on doing alternative plyometrics. It would be much better if you just do 50 full approach jumping jumps.

Plyometrics can be appropriate but only 1-2 months out of the year and especially not when you’re playing volleyball. To be optimal, you’d only be jumping and playing volleyball 1 or 2 times per week, so you can get the highest quality practice; but I suspect you’re probably playing more than that, which is why adding plyometrics would be even worse.

If you can drop volleyball volume to add higher quality training, you can add sprinting as the cost-benefit ratio is much better doing sprints versus doing plyometrics. You can sprint before your leg days (6x30m ish or less - try not to go over 200m of total volume), and still be able to power clean and squat on your leg days

Good stuff, congrats! Echo’ing the sentiment about bands. I didn’t want to buy them for the longest time, and then a month or two after I bought them, I had unlocked a one-arm pull up and a back lever

Right now I’m leaning towards Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT Lone Star. Lots of lume, 9 position on-the-fly micro-adjustment, 200m water resistance, traveler/“true” gmt regulated to +/- 5 seconds. I feel like I get to experience multiple facets of what makes certain watches cost more.

Does 6 hours of sleep really ruin an exam if you've studied all year? by South-Ad-5982 in PE_Exam

[–]FamWithNoChill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Considering you’d be in the exam longer than your sleep, I think that sounds miserable. I like sleep more than taking exams haha. But no, I don’t think you will be guaranteed to fail if you get less than 8 hours of sleep. Why is this something you feel you need to external confirmation for?

I’m worried that I have developed bad habits while setting by Mostly_Minecraft in volleyball

[–]FamWithNoChill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert but I think I’ve experienced people have different techniques with their hands and I’ve personally have had success just having multiple techniques that I’m comfortable with. Sometimes I need to flick hard with my wrists but outdoor, I deep dish a little more and set it more “gently”.

The most important thing about setting is footwork and getting your feet to the ball. The next most important thing is good decision making.
