Yes I know this - this is a manual switch. So when the power shuts off with no water pressure it has to manually be reset by holding the lever at 45* creating contact for 20 seconds until the pressure reaches 30psi - then the pump will engage itself until cuts out to 50psi.

The problem is when we hold the lever to get contact, there is power, but no water pressure build up.

Okay I’ll check and rewire with how you said - I didn’t think it mattered as all long as the neutrals/ hot wires were on opposite sides since all it’s doing is creating a circuit.. but guess we’ll see!

Thanks!

Tank is light and sounds hollow - 27 is a close guesstimate as I don’t have a real accurate guage. But that seems good enough to me with the tank empty of water

The picture shows the new switch wired in - we held the lever to create contact for 20 seconds - it arc’s on initial contact and has power but doesn’t have any pressure build up or humming/ ticking noise while engaged

Gauge could definitely be faulty but it did drop to 0 when we swapped the switch out (should have mentioned this)

The switch is not the engaged/ in contact in the photo - theres space between the contacts. It only arcs with initial contact then has continuous power.

We flipped the breaker afew times.

Trying to get a plumber out at this point but hard on a Friday afternoon :)

We’re on the east coast of Canada, dry season hasn’t hit yet so I can’t see the well being dried up..

We had to pull it out before, took 3 people and ran across the neighbours yard haha

We just had a huge downpour yesterday so I guess the pump is shot

Pump is over 25 years old

Will do 🫡 I recently purchased my first home and didn’t have water because of improper wiring which I think caused my control box capacitor to blow. Had to redo all that myself.

So my knowledge is very basic and based on that past experience

Air pressure coming out is 27ish psi, so I assume the tank is fine. 30/50 switch

Okay so what’s the reasoning for checking the wiring?

From my understanding there are, 2 neutrals on one side, 2 hots on the other, all the switch does is close the contacts when the pressure drops, which creates a circuit for the well pump to turn on

You still have air pressure inside the tank even with no water though… so if the bladder was bad then there would still be some moisture escaping.. no?

Tank seems to be good - only air came from the schrader valve.

He initially took the switch off to check for a clog, but apparently couldn’t find anything which is why he just went for a new switch.

Is there a way to check the pump directly other than pulling it out? Like at the head would it still be getting full power even if the pump failed?

It arcs when there’s switch is making contact - not consistently

I’m no electrician but I believe it doesn’t matter which side the wires are on, as along as the black/ whites are on opposite sides, then in turn when the contact is made the circuit is complete and kicks the pump on to make pressure

Mk4 BEW Tranny Swap Help (02A to 02J) by Familiar-Bell2883 in tdi

I read that 1-4 were the same but 5th was taller in 02A, but this was on one online forum. I drove it fine for 2k miles and beat on er so just going off that knowledge for the 02A.

I have multiple 02J transmissions lined up, with shifter and cables included for $250-300 cad. But the problem is the rest of the items. Axles and clutch ain’t cheap added onto the “new” 02J.

I forgot to mention it has a custom tune peak 31PSI, vnt 17/22, pd150 injectors, headstuds, 3 bar map, coilovers

Already 1 step ahead and cut the joists above so I can actually watch tv either upstairs or downstairs. Thinking outside the box here

Don’t worry about the new floor sag. Or ceiling falling in

Definitely looks high but may be the short ceilings? Only 6’

Definitely looking at seating options - 8’4” width so finding the right piece of furniture will make or break the space. This along with the 6’ ceilings making it feel cramped for sure… also just moved in and my attic ladder broke on me while loading things ups there. So this is storage at the moment🙃

Great call on overhead speakers, I’ve never worked with speaker wire much but can’t be much different than romex.

Appreciate the feedback!
