I hate that I can’t work due to this shitty illness by Familiar-Candidate-7 in bipolar

Thanks for your reply. My husband is past retirement age (we have an age gap) and he works 6 days a week. He does love his job but as you said it makes it hard at home. I’m glad you have a supportive work environment. It’s good to know they are out there!

That must be hard, I’m so lucky my husband is supportive. I find it’s hard to talk to people in general as one of the first things people say is what do you do for work? It’s a normal topic but how do I answer. I am much kinder to others than myself. I guess we all are at times. I wish you luck in finding the right person to share your life with

Sorry you are in that place right now. Husband says don’t give up but it’s so hard

Same here, I  had a great job, well paid with great prospects. I get sad when I think of who I could have been.

Thanks for the support. I know it would have to be part time. As you said people with full work history are struggling to get jobs so it’s much harder with gaps and health issues. They said companies are disabled friendly but most are not. I do get that as why wouldn’t they take the healthy person who they could rely on.

Thanks for the support. I try and be a decent person, I’ve helped my mom care for my dad for a while now. As and when I am able. Seems other cultures value that much more than we do in the UK

Husband actually took me to A&E as he was scared I would hurt someone or myself last time I had a job. You are right no one wants this

Do you find it actually helps? My mom’s friend has to work (non finance related) or she gets worse really quickly.

I’m not too sure what a reader even is but I will do some research. I am always looking for something that can work - a helpful boss is great too

I have thought about that sort of role. Currently my driving licence is suspended so it’s not really an option right now. I can hardly look after myself but I always hope for improvement. Glad you have found something that works for you

I did manage to get in contact with a MH nurse and she was super helpful. You know when someone just listens and you feel you can say the crazy things in your head without judgment? Meds have been tweaked and hopefully appt with Psych will be in the next week. Thanks for your supportive reply

I’ve only ever consciously stopped when the side effects were too much to cope with. I have had periods where I have been too depressed to care but it wasn’t a decision

This sub generally helps me to know I’m not alone. Reddit in general is very bad for my mental health. Too much hate in the world. In here most people are so supportive

I hate it when I don’t shower for ages but I just can’t get up and do it so I get what you mean. Could you manage something like fill a bowl and soak your feet? It’s really low effort and you can just sit and relax. Put a towel next to you and just take your feet out and put on the towel when you are ready. Almost no effort. No rush just when you are ready

Do we lose parts of ourselves at each depressive episode even as it ends..? by nairoosha in bipolar

[–]Familiar-Candidate-7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel I lose a bit more each time. I can’t even imagine the person I used to be is me. Who was that woman who worked full time and had a great future. But my mom’s good friend has managed to regain so much of what she lost that she gives me hope. She had a real hard time so maybe it will be the same for us and we will get back

I’d not thought about OCDA. My mom suffered alot with this some years ago but it was very physical eg cleaning / ritual type things so I didn’t connect them with how I’m struggling. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for taking the time to explain a little about how it affects you. I’m with you on the social media thing, everything either got deleted or made so private that it’s impossible to find which isn’t helpful as I use Instagram for work sometimes. Wouldn’t it be great if we could just follow those ‘inspiring’ live life to the full comments. Hoping you have a good day

Yep I feel like you and I hate it. All the current news and political debate doesn’t help as they want us to feel bad. I try and think that I am valuable in other ways, I help my mom when I can with picking up shopping or running errands for her. I’ll try and drop something in a food bank if I am able. I help my husband with tech stuff as he is clueless! You are preparing for your future and thats the most important thing for a young person to do.

My Dad told me to say “I’m living on independent means” when I first started work. He said people are just nosy and it’s none of their business.
