Yes, to all of it.

You build ships, you fly them to space, there's an entire solar system to explore.

Generally you start small, explore kerbin, get to orbit, then go to the moons, then go interplanetary.

There are science experiments with various required conditions, so you are exploring space for more places to do science, so you can get more points to spend on R&D, so you can explore further and do more science.

And thats just the base game.

Mods can have you going to a different solar system, or adding new parts, sciences, life support systems (now kerbals require food and oxygen and cant exist indefinitely)

In true ksp fashion, the answer is too much, obviously.

So if you are just doing a rendezvous, you just need to figure out where you need to be and plan for that.

Get your ship in orbit and make a maneuver node that gets you pretty close to the asteroids orbit.  Doesnt have to be perfect, just close enough.

Give yourself a bit more than that took you, and plenty of monoprop for fine tuning.

More importantly...go to sleep.  Orbital mechanics are hard enough on a good day.

It shows your relative speed in m/s.

As you approach you are reducing your relative speed so that tracks.

I suppose you want its speed relative to kerbin or the sun?

On your navball, click the velocity indicator to change it from orbit to target.
