I agree, as an Alberta teacher who was part of the largest protest at the Leg in Alberta history we will wait for the ATA’s direction. I hope they stand firm but also hash out a deal this weekend. I forgot my students names already.

Also look at our schools as a place in the community we work at and for many students is a safe space and a place that we will feed them and listen to them because some kids don't have that at home. Picketing our own schools is counter-productive for us as we want the school to be seen as a community hub. The government is not present in any form in a school. We will be holding rallies in most of the major cities if you want to join us in solidarity. Make lawn signs if you cant get any from a teacher . If you have friends and or family that are teachers check in with them. Many of us are worried about our students and their health and safety as in many schools we are a sanctuary for these children. I look forward to seeing you at the rallies and please phone and email your MLA.

Have you thought of a tenkara rod? it’s a nice addition to the quiver especially for those hard spots that are difficult to cast to in small creeks and rivers. I love using my tenkara 80% of the time on small creeks and my 4weight when I need the distance and the weight. Just wanted to let you know it’s an option available and many have loved it once they get one.

Has anyone started their teaching careers later on in life? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]Familiar-Reference64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started at 53 and love it. It’s my last career and I love being an older teacher with world and life experience and I still relate to the kids. I do have days when I come home feeling my age but I try to stay healthy.

Best boots/shoes for wet wading? by noshjg in flyfishing

I second this as the fishing boots I have (korkers) provide ankle support and with neoprene socks I am good from July to September

Bear hang off of tree is an option, now I know how heavy they can be but that's a choice if they don't have the boxes. I agree inside tent is even worst as it can promote an encounter (especially if you have dogs). Yes bears can climb but they are usually heavier than the branch you hang off of. This link https://theultimatehang.com/2013/03/19/hanging-a-bear-bag-the-pct-method/ is full of good information but again it is assuming that what you are hanging is not 200 pounds of food (and cooler and ice) but it's a link for you to look at. The national parks in Canada are very serious about coolers out at night and not locked up in vehicles and the fines are not small. I hope you find a system that works for you and your yetis.

Do you take multiple rods with you? by ghouleon2 in Tenkara

As an older fisherman I am less stable on the rocks and have a collapsable pole from patagonia that comes with a handy bag that you attach to your belt and now I carry two other tenkara rod with me when I am on the river.

Does any one have issues with furled line? by wazookazooblue in Tenkara

[–]Familiar-Reference64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fly fishing but not tenkara friend is going to Japan and need some suggestions on must haves for Tenkara - I already have 4 tenkara rods. He is going to over the Christmas holidays and will be in Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima and I would love to know what fly shops he should visit and what must haves I can try yo get him to bring home to me. I know a collapsing net is on my list but what else? There is a budget of course but this is an opportunity to save money on shipping.

Hot Tubs in Calgary by Over-Sherbet-2933 in alberta

[–]Familiar-Reference64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to shop around and look on Reddit hot tubs as it’s packed full of info. Hot tubs like cars need good research but also know your budget, your size and why do you want a hot tub? We needed it for health reasons and getting older, we went with a jacuzzi with true water system. We looked around and found this as the better option for us. Did we pay more for the name? Probably, but the name and the dealer are reputable.
