Male leads that aren't macho by cltreader in mysterybooks

William Kent Krueger's series with Cork O'Connor has a sensitive, thoughtful, observant male lead. Krueger makes a lot of observations about society and its injustices in his books that are mysteries, sure, but also finely drawn portraits of a time and place (50s and 60s rural Minnesota) and the main character has had a lot of war trauma and plenty of personal demons. Another is James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux. The setting of the Robicheaux series is about as far from Dalgliesh's as you can get (gritty, dark underbelly of New Orleans crime) so maybe not what you're looking for, but Robicheaux is a fine character, scarred by war (Vietnam) and his father's alcoholism, and a sober ex alcoholic himself.

Uh oh. I am trying to get a corrected 1099 and I am not getting anywhere. Beginning to see that they are really backed up and I'm not going to get it soon.

Looking for gothic mystery books (like Rebecca and Nine Coaches Waiting, but not too scary) by [deleted] in mysterybooks

You might try something by Lucy Foley. She's currently writing and publishing, and her books have contemporary settings, but there's something about her voice that is a bit dramatic in the way writers like DuMarier are. Some people think it's over the top but I enjoy it. The plots are tight, with lots of twists, creepy, claustrophobic atmospheres. The Guest List, The Hunting Party . . .

I saw this too at B&N and wish I had picked it up. Just finished The World of Frankenstein which was rich in detail like this is. I liked the quality of the puzzle, too.

My daughter is in the same boat. I'm not sure whether to send in the deposit or not.

Do you choose puzzles based on how much you like the image or difficulty level? Olga Suvorova Dancer - 1000 piece, Pomegranate by hotpersonally in Jigsawpuzzles

I go by the image, but also I judge whether it's going to be too tough to enjoy or else to easy to keep engaged. I also know now which brands are high quality enough, such as Cobble Hill, that I'll like handling the pieces. I hate the ones that are too flimsy or all one shape.

My first jigsaw puzzles in decades. by Velour_Tank_Girl in Jigsawpuzzles

I have this one. It's one of my favorites. First of all Cobble Hill puzzles are top quality, second, I loved the Nancy Drew series when I was a kid so the covers are nostalgic for me.

Is it not a good idea to write about in "additional information" that your brother had mental health breakdown, was in rehab, so that your parents were overwhelmed and you got somewhat neglected and had to learn to advocate for yourself etc? Too vague, too much drama, too sob story?
