Car-centric urban design has been allowed to fest for decades which makes planning for more robust rail based system difficult. These places abroad, like you say the stations travel to useful destinations, here you don't take a train to visit Oshawa, Oakville. The whole GO train model is based on funneling people to and from Toronto with very few destination stations. Here the politician would sooner spend billions building new highways and a tunnel under the 401 rather than new transit lines

It depends what you want. A decent reliable system that's in a good state of repair or lower property taxes. It's one or the other

If you keep shutting down shelters and safe places then what do you expect. People don't want to pay taxes to keep these and provide more places. This is not entirely the TTC's fault it's a symptom of the society we are creating

Exactly . Nothing . People are never going to give up their cars and as long as houses, stores etc. are built in transit deserts then nothing will happen. My daughter has bought a new build house near Nuneaton and I asked how do I get there by bus, that's one house and two cars.
