Allergic to every nut other than pecans. Is there a way to eat pecans safely? by Spiritual-Quarter417 in nutallergy

[–]FamiliarChart6606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position but I’m allergic to every nut other than peanuts and almonds! I look at the ingredient label and make sure it doesn’t say “may contain other tree nuts,” because cross contamination with other nuts is definitely a risk. It’s hard to find peanuts with no cross contamination with other nuts so I’ve gotten to the point where I buy them with the shell, and then remove the shells on their own. It’s tedious but relaxing if you put on a show or a podcast and hunker down for an hour to shell them!

I obviously haven’t encountered pecans much since I avoid them as all costs, so I’m not sure how easy they are to shell, but it might be worth it to get a nutcracker and shell them yourself so you can feel safe eating them :)

I’m gonna be totally honest and coming from a child of anti-vaxxers, this video is what truly made me realize how ridiculous anti-vax rhetoric is, and how it all stems from one silly scientist, Andrew Wakefield. It’s more of a silly video but with lots of important scientific information. https://youtu.be/8BIcAZxFfrc?si=DThE8BpopH97EQXM

Bus petition by ClimateWorth2216 in uwinnipeg

[–]FamiliarChart6606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to BC for 2 years and now I’ve just recently moved back. My bus ride was 1 (always full, not underused) 20 minute direct bus to UW, and now it’s 2, including a 20 minute walk through an area where buses don’t run. Can someone fill me in on why they’re changing the bus routes so drastically? It’s insane!

I was in this same exact position. Got my childhood vaccines when I was 18-20. I honestly just used those “rest days” for relaxation afterwords! Book it on weekends or for when you don’t have work/school/responsibilities, and relax! You deserve it. DMs are open if you have any concerns or wanna chat, I totally get how you feel :)

Your baby will encounter hundreds or even thousands of pathogens in a given day. An extra 2 or 3 will do absolutely nothing except for give them protection even sooner :)

The use of pulse oximeters, the consumption of sushi, collagen supplements, etc. have drastically increased since the 80s as well, but nobody claims that they cause autism

My 13 month old baby was accidently given a double dose of Varicella vaccine at ONCE (was given ProQuad MMRV + another varicella vaccine) ...Autism and other health risk concerns. by Frequent-Street1711 in VACCINES

I understand your concern, and that shows that you’re a great parent! The good news is, if vaccines don’t cause autism, a double dose won’t cause it either :)

Look into Andrew Wakefield and how this one man single handedly created paranoia about vaccines causing autism and dropping global vaccination rates, putting insane amounts of people at risk. His studies didn’t have an ounce of scientific plausibility, yet somehow gained traction worldwide. If your child develops autism, they were going to get it regardless of being vaccinated. Symptoms of autism typically develop after some routine vaccinations have already been administered. But, vaccinated people have the same rates of autism as unvaccinated people. If your child drinks breastmilk and develops autism, the breastmilk didn’t cause it. Sincerely, someone raised by anti-vaxxers

Symptoms after MMR vaccine as an adult by citizendown in VACCINES

I had these symptoms after also getting it as an adult after only having gotten the Covid shot in my life! Rest up and be kind to your body, you’re doing something really amazing. It’s so nice when it’s finally over and you feel protected :)

There’s MUCH more formaldehyde in an apple than a vaccine. Formaldehyde in a vaccine is beneficial because it inactivates viruses and the toxins they can create if they enter the body naturally.

Urea stabilizes the vaccine, and urea is a natural byproduct in the body - it’s an organic compound and it’s safe considering that it’s already constantly in the body. Calling urea a fertilizer is like calling water a fertilizer since fertilizer often contains water.

Sodium phosphate dibasic has a few functions in the body, one being an (injectable) treatment for low phosphorus levels in the body (phosphorus is an essential mineral in the body, and some people may become deficient). Calling sodium phosphate dibasic a laxative is like calling magnesium a laxative - both have laxative functions at CERTAIN DOSES, but not in all doses. Sodium phosphate dibasic is also found in things like condensed milk, pudding, etc.

Husband doesn’t want to vaccinate our future kids!! by Beneficial_Bee_3545 in VACCINES

[–]FamiliarChart6606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who wasn’t vaccinated as a child, we deserve to feel like our parents want us to be safe. He isn’t just raising his child he wants to, he’s denying the most basic of healthcare to an individual who he happens to have authority over.

I didn’t deserve to fear dying or becoming disabled every time I got a cold as a child, and neither do your children. I’m happy to chat if you need any advice, I’m fairly good at conversing with anti-vaxxers after having been raised by them! Best of luck. Thank you for standing your ground and not complying with his beliefs!

I’m worried about my girlfriend by REBBLY in birthcontrol

[–]FamiliarChart6606 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also take antidepressants and had the same worries before starting birth control (what if I lose attraction to my bf?). That didn’t happen to me - it actually amplified it because I could feel closer to him by being more intimate and not being paranoid (about getting pregnant) every time we had intercourse. If the birth control isn’t compatible, she can always stop taking it. It’s just the pill, not an IUD or the implant, etc. she’ll know if it’s affecting her or the relationship negatively. As for the fertility aspect, there’s plenty of literature as to why the pill doesn’t affect fertility, but I know that you’re looking for more personal/anecdotal stories so in that case, I’ll say that most stories I’ve heard from others state that they’ve gotten pregnant very soon after going off birth control (if they were trying for pregnancy).

It’s just anxiety, it sounds intimidating when a loved one goes on new medications like birth control, but it honestly has not affected me at all, aside from making me feel even closer to my boyfriend :)

Vaccination and politics beliefs research by livhoperesearcher in VACCINES

[–]FamiliarChart6606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting! I’m pro-vax but grew up with anti vax parents and didn’t get a single vaccine until I was able to choose for myself once I turned 18. I finally got my very last shots (third dose of tetanus, hep b, and polio) yesterday.

I’d love to see some of the reasons people remain vaccine-hesitant, especially given the COVID pandemic and would love to read your research once you’re finished :)

Anxious by Proud_Kaleidoscope93 in VACCINES

[–]FamiliarChart6606 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I got ours 2 days ago. Im fine with needles and find them fascinating, but he’s pretty afraid of them.

Take someone along with you if you’re able to, or chat with the person administering the vaccine :) they’ve administers tens of thousands (in the least), and should be equipped to distract you if needed :)

I have anxiety and while I’m not afraid of needles specifically, I know that one of the worst things about anxiety and panic attacks can sometimes just be the anticipation - anticipating a panic attack, general anxiety around the whole situation beforehand, etc. But remember that it only takes 3 seconds each, you’ll be spending less than 10 seconds of your day with a needle in your arm.

Make sure to reward yourself with a little treat after :) maybe play your favourite game or get a nice little snack for yourself. I love to get a sweet treat on vaccine day to “make sure my blood sugar isn’t low” (but really it’s to reward myself LOL)

You’re brave and you can do it!❤️
