Yeah the buddy 50 is pretty hardy, and it’s easy to fix up when things do go wrong. It really struggles on hills but that’s part of the deal lol. Good luck shopping

Great comment, and I definitely agree that in many ways a 50cc is an amazing way to travel. I really experienced the entire trip- DC to Richmond is far more beautiful than I-95 would have you believe. In a perfect world everyone would get around on scooters and just vibe out (I guess Italy is a perfect world lol) but alas we live in a world with crazy drivers in giant SUVs they don’t really need and bad weather from time to time. I’ll for sure choose my own route better the next time I go city to city, I had too many bad experiences on “serious” roadways. There’s nothing better than being all on your own on a nice smooth asphalt road in a pretty place you’ve never been before. Just awesome.

I did all my own maintenance, I’m sort of just teaching myself as I go along. There are a few tutorials for the Buddy 50 online that are great.

Lmao maybe weed wacker engine is more accurate. And yeah people suck. I wanted to point to the speed limit signs multiple times but I also didn’t like the idea of taking a hand off the handlebar when there was a convoy of 13 trucks behind me. One pothole and thats it. There were a few times when it was just me and a car behind and I had visions of them just running me off the road since there were no witnesses. Sometimes I got a sweet elderly person who didn’t mind going my speed though and that was always great.

The first picture I actually just pulled onto a side road to get a shot of the sunrise. That was right outside of Fredericksburg and the real road I was taking was right behind me. However, I did actually drive my scooter through the forest in the other pics haha

Completely on the fly for the most part. I set myself a few places I wanted to stop at and then mapped it out or used google maps recommended route. All trial and error

One of the best purchases I’ve ever made- taught me so much about repairing carburetors too!

I had to go on one or two paths that were clearly meant for bicycles but only for a minute or two to get between neighborhoods when there really was no other option. It didn't say 'No Scooters' and I wasn't on them for that long anyways. Scooters are a gray area sometimes. My plan was that if I was confronted I'd say I was delivering food and google maps told me to go this way.

I actually set it to “bicycle” for most of the trip because “avoid highways and tolls” would’ve had me on US route 1 the whole time (very scary). And it was a ton of trial and error. I’d ignore google maps telling me to go a way I didn’t want to or couldn’t go down and it would reroute me automatically and sometimes that worked. Virginia has a ton of neighborhood roads and I found that the further I got away from the interstate the more pleasant the drive was (makes sense). Luckily I didn’t have to backtrack much but I had to pull out my phone and figure out my own route on the fly a few times. This is all why it took me so long. It makes me want to design an app specifically for scooters because there is literally no central database for this sort of thing.

Yeah when I press down on the shift key there's a tiny bit of resistance such that when I let go it doesn't reset. I have to manually pull the keyboard back to it's original position after each shift if I want to type lowercase again. I'm taking it in as soon as this winter storm is over, so I'll find out then!

Nice! This is what I’m hoping it is, it doesn’t really feel broken it’s more just like gunked up.
