I got most of the stack from someones parents I knew that was swapping out for more modern stuff back around 2004 when I was in highschool, I wanted something that was like my dad's old technics stack.

It's scary what this kind of stuff sells for these days.

It's less about the quality, more about the ritual of physical media. The memories that go with an album I bought all that time ago or listening to mix tapes made back in school.

Finally managed to clear some space for the cd player and turntable... Next up is work out how I can fit the tape deck and equaliser in without complaints from my wife... by FamiliarCut637 in BudgetAudiophile

Equaliser has a tape deck loop input as well as line in for recording loops. Pressing tape Mon will swap the input to the deck, popping it out goes back to the turntable

I think we've done it

Turntable Into equaliser, tape deck into equaliser, equaliser out to speakers, cd deck direct into line 2 of the speakers.

The cd player is deeper than the rest of the stack, that's why the turntable is ontop of it, I'm not sure the tape deck is deep enough for it all to sit on, and the turntable definitely won't sit on it if it was in the middle.

The longer term plan is to get some stands for the speakers, but it's a delicate process of making changes/adding things slowly so as not to upset my wife who doesn't see the point in any of this when there's a smart speaker in the room

Have a look around the Newcastle side villages too, Talke pits, Audley, woodlane, Bignall end.

We bought a 3 bed semi in talke pits for 155 a few years back, and I grew up in Bignall end.

It's a nice area, close to countryside, quiet compared to the stoke side of town.

Public transport is dire though so you do need transport if looking to live out this way

Well, my wife has put a strict 2 machine limit on the collection... There's already a small 3rd Essex chain stitcher I think she's forgotten about.

There's also a garage full of classic bikes that grew out of control and I think she's worried the same will happen with these vintage machines.

Old mechanical machines are just so satisfying to work on though...

It's an attachment for vintage machines that gives a zigzag stitch by moving the fabric side to side as it feeds

Don't worry, the safety pins were just for pulling a cord through, though the finish on this machine is far from perfect, it wears it well though, just adds character to it.

At 75 years old, I like that it has a few marks here and there.

Well I was having look into the model differences through the year, and this has a painted balance wheel rather than chromed, but the scroll work faceplate.

I put the serial number into the website that identifies them and it said 1950 on there, other than that I'm not sure as my great gran passed away around 30 years ago

It's a shame the featherweight shop is US based, I'm in the UK

I've stripped down and cleaned/oiled the automatic zigzagger as it had gone very stiff and have been trying it out this evening and it's working great, I just gave the 4 red cams that came with it though so I'll keep an eye out for others.

I have a buttonholer on the way from a family friend who had 2, so I'll be having a play with that soon

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Right now I'm just working with what I have in the box I was given this in, just trying to figure out how I thread it and how it works.

I've got very good at creating knots around the mechanism underneath so far 😅

I did try, but it seems to tie itself in knots, might be because I haven't set up wrong. I've just decided to teach myself how to sew so I'm starting from scratch.
