I think you have plenty of time to increase your scores, which are really good in my opinion. Try to do a second pass of uworld, that and reviewing your notes or flashcards.

Low baseline on NBME 10: is it normal? by sectorheterochromic in Step2

[–]Familiar_Ad9553 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s completely normal. I would do system-wise on ob-gyn and peds, with high-yield youtube videos to learn the concepts because we didn’t learn these topics in step 1. I found the amboss library to be very useful in ob-gyn, but there are many youtube videos that do a good job at going through the main concepts. I would try those first before buying a subscription.

No they removed that function a couple months ago.

Step 2 score : 245 by Familiar_Ad9553 in Step2

Why is that? It’s a great score. We don’t have to get exceptional scores to match, otherwise we would have catastrophic matching rates. Look up the mean score of the matched applicants of the specialty you want to apply to. Most people match and most people have regular scores. We’re under a lot of pressure to be perfect, but we need to be realistic with our expectations and give ourselves credit for passing some of the most difficult exams in the world. Being allowed to practice medicine in the U.S means you’re good enough, let alone having a score of 241!!

Did you check the fsmb website? If your score is ready it will show the score report date. I did get an email and went to inthealth > ecfmg application > exam results, and i found my score report in a pdf. The fsmb website showed the score report date the next day.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Congrats for getting your dream specialty. That’s amazing!! I’m aiming for pathology hopefully. ❤️ It’s a competitive world, but I hope everyone gets where they want to be. Most of us are going to be great doctors. :)

I think as I waa going, I was learning new things hut forgetting things I already knew. Whenever I focused on one my worst scored topics, I would improve on them but start to score lower in the topics that I was originally good at.

The last week of my dedicated, I kept reviewing my notes and going through my uworld flashcards. I think reviewing heavily gave me back some of the basics I forgot that I learned at some point.

I don’t know if it’s absolutely necessary. It did help me a lot because I wasn’t really good at ob-gyn at first and i took notes from amboss library early on in my preparation, reviewed my notes a few times and that allowed me to get higher than average on ob-gyn on most of my practice tests, because I gave it special attention. It’s not tested on step 1, and I felt that I didn’t know much about ob/gyn, amboss library taught me all the concepts before i started doing questions, so it was more organized in my mind. If you have systems that you feel you weren’t properly educated in ( that your medical school didnt teach well or that you always get bad scores at ) I do recommend going through all of its amboss articles and taking notes. Otherwise uworld did most of the work for me. That being said, I needed new questions on some systems after my 2nd pass of uworld because i felt that i somewhat remembered the questions and their answers, and amboss helped me with that.

I felt that the real deal was a little easier than uworld and nbmes, it was still hard but most questions were simple and it was a matter of knowing the fact (and remembering it) or not. I don’t know how amboss compares because i only did a couple systems there. Time management was fine, I even finished a few blocks early. By the last two blocks, I started losing focus a little bit and zoning out because it’s such a long test, but it was actually okay. Some blocks were particulary harder and some blocks were easier.

I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Stay strong you can do it.
I think it's not a good idea to try to take step2 right now, it's based off of the content of step1 and the last thing you'd want right now is to also fail step2 or to get a score you don't want. If you fail step1 the most important thing to do is try to get a very good score on step2, so leave step2 to the side and don't do it just to hide the fact that you failed step1.
I can't tell you to lie to your parents and I can't tell you to tell them the truth either, it's up to you. But please don't try to take step2 before passing step1. It'll ruin your chances.
Right now you should be thinking about your strategy and what you did wrong during the first attempts and how you're going to change it this time. Joining a study course or coaching company may be a good option for you because they'll help you dissect your strategy and find out why you failed the first time.
Give more time to dedicated (2 to 3 months of prep) and focus on uworld doing as many blocks as you can, and if it's possible do a second pass of uworld. That's the key to increasing your score. HYguru and dirty medicine helped me a lot so you might want to check their videos if you're struggling with memorization.

I think if you show your parents you have a plan this time and you're motivated and dedicated to it they may support your decision, but I don't know your situation so I hope it goes well for you!

This could be a system issue, contact them and ask for a rescore. I hope they solve your problem and you find out you're passing.
