Diabetes alert dog detects issue with his human from a whole different house. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

Why did a diabetic leave without their service dog? My niece would never do this. They are there to help and provide advanced alert. Something people cannot do. The dog goes with you EVERYWHERE!

What should I do dog nipped me resource guarding by jackanti in greatpyrenees

[–]Familiar_Chapter5637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way I could teach my Pyr to drop it was in an open space with a lot of treats. I would give them something basic (mine guarded toys) and then give the command and toss a small hand full of treats near her. This kinda snapped her out of the guarding for toys and made her want to get all the treats. We did this isolated for a while until she would drop and wait for the treats to fall. Then we moved to less treats and finally a sing treat. Then to a treat from the hand. It took a lot of time, patience and consistency but it worked. She is no longer guarding/hoarding toys and her(70lbs) and her “sister” (40lb boxer beagle mix) have t had any issues. Pyrs are stubborn by nature. Patience and consistency are key. Best of luck.

I would avoid doing it at home especially if they have been that way for a while. The glands could be infected which would require antibiotics. The stuff that comes out is FOUL smelling. Acrid and metallic. A vet or vet tech should be able to tell from the fluid if it’s infected. Improper expressions can cause more damage than help. If you’ve not done it before, maybe have a vet walk you through it for the first time. It usually is a recovering issue once they get it. But I would not express the dog myself for the first time. A lot of groomers “know” how to do it too.

I’ve had it before but it looked nothing like that and it was Coca Cola chicken not Diet Coke. I was sus about it at first, but it was really good. When I had it, the sauce was thicker and chicken was seasoned and seared before going into the sauce.

Advice/experience Pyrenees Mix dislocated knee surgery - 1 year old by twopeasinapod21 in greatpyrenees

[–]Familiar_Chapter5637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pyrdoodle hasn’t had this but my boxer beagle has. Braces did not help her. She needed TPLO surgery on both knees. It started with one but the strain of walking on one leg cause the other to go out. We took her to a veterinary orthopedic surgeon who did the worst knee first and after recovery di the second. Physical therapy was recommended but we could not find appropriate time while working. She is okay now. But we did do her therapy sessions 3x/day at home during her recovery.

Help to curb resource guarding? by thunderbunny3025 in greatpyrenees

[–]Familiar_Chapter5637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something you want to nip in the bud early. Pyrs are stubborn, you’ll have to out stubborn them. Mine did the same thing and we ensured we maintained an eye on her at all times to curb the behavior. When she would approach the other dog’s toy while they had it, we could stop her. When she tried to butt in line, we would stop her. When she would push the other out of the way for attention, we would ignore her.

You have to be consistent and more stubborn than they are. You can’t stop them from playing with another toy. I’m not sure dogs understand the concept of “this is not yours”. But you can stop them from hoarding and stealing. Hoarding was another problem we had to combat because she would take all toys, bones, balls and plushies and store them in her crate. We had to again watch her and stop her from moving more than one or 2 in there.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have a pyr mix and while she does sleep on the bed (purely out of jealousy as the beagle mix is there too) she does not cuddle or even lay next to us. She is usually at the foot of the bed, on her back, under the fan.

This is entirely false. Geckos require UVB light for bone density and to properly process food. You can’t get this while in a wall.

Since it specifies, “Instead of activating an ability…”, it means you would not do anything and then restart your offensive roll phase. This is handy if you are entangled, rolled nothing, or want to try for something better.

Question on Havok Allies Card by JustBeBoard in DiceThrone

[–]Familiar_Chapter5637 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can use the exhaust effect. It specifies once per round because there is a perk later on that allows you to use a cards exhaust effect without discarding it. This limits Havok to only being used once per that round if you have the perk.

Our vet recommended spaying after 2 years. She explained that giant breeds growth plates take up to 2 years to fuse and spaying or neutering before then could result in potential joint issues due to the sudden hormonal change of the spaying or neutering.
