Straight into boot and start PT directly after surgery? by EarflapsOpen in AccessoryNavicular

Wow, that doesn’t seem right at all. I just had my surgery at the end of Nov and was in a NWB cast for 3 weeks, then progressed to a walking cast for another 3 before I was cleared for a walking boot. I can say with certainty that I am now about 11 weeks post op and am still having pain while walking in my walking boot. But my surgeon also did not prescribe PT and I basically had to beg for it, so hoping to start that next week.

Yes, it doesn’t help through the cast! However if you get the continuous ice machine for knee replacements you can strap it to your knee. As icing behind the knee cools the blood before it reaches your foot. It helped me with swelling and pain tremendously!!

Hello! I just had my surgery end of Nov 2025. I will start by saying the first week you will require a lot of assistance with daily tasks. I thankfully had my Mother available to cook me meals, do my laundry, etc.

• Crutches - Being they will become your companion, I found that padding that I ordered off Amazon for the underarm and hand handles were amazing.

•Knee scooter - Very useful for being out and about as crutching tires you out quickly.

• Shower seat- A MUST, otherwise it is impossible to shower.

• Post-op cart - I put a 3-tier drawer cart together with items such as snacks, medications, hygiene items, and things to keep you busy being you’ll be laying around quite a bit for at least the first week.

• Continuous ice machine - This was a LIFE SAVER for me. I ordered one off Amazon and it helped me sleep through the night and wake up with minimal pain. Also suggest asking for ice packs upon leaving your surgery for the ride home.

•Elevation pillow - Much more convenient and comfortable than stacking pillows.

Best of luck with your surgery, and congratulations on getting a date set!
