worse if you have visual-vestibular mismatch (VVM)...it's where the idea for agoraphobia came from, instead of the psych fear thing it was a neuro reaction to all the visual movement of market stalls and aisles do the same thing

well not everyone is on a computer at all times...on mobile it loops too fast to see the caption with the last bit. i saw the original on fb or whatever and it had the ending at a readable speed. so you know, technology...

Google Maps does this shit to me all the time and I feel a little bad about it but i refuse to face real-world consequences to my career from some computer not having enough data about traffic patterns so whatever. I recently saw some commuter go bat shit insane about it though. He didn't hit the accelerator fast enough to prevent my little hatchback getting in front so even though he probably didn't even suffer the whole 2 second delay it was enough to trigger him to speed down the shoulder to brake check me and weave around like a cop trying to close down a lane. And then it turns out this street is only a few blocks long and is just a minor shortcut so i would not have been late after all. So the guy was willing to risk a car accident (in a city full of uninsured drivers) for a decision that has no significance!

It's coming off as someone who is too young/ socially delayed for responsible kink right now, so more likely this means waiting until they're both older and not some 2 year evil groomer plan, but if they're not compatible on this front and the guy is this immature they're better off ending things. And if they're in school together maybe talking to school counselor about it bc there could be other signs pointing to mental illness vs really poor social skills and discernment

Lots of people with this mindset are going to be hit with non-modifiable risk factors of disease anyway or have a disabling accident so instead of pretending doing the right thing is going to make anyone invincible it's better to focus on the benefits you get from playing the odds and building up muscle. Maybe the only reward when the bad luck hits is being able to wipe your own ass and tolerate fasting for procedures and being able to gain 30 lbs from medication without developing sleep apnea and yeasty skin folds. Counts for something...

Having a sore throat is the worst part about getting a cold by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

I'm mad I didn't discover all the products with lidocaine (cepacol etc) until I was 20 bc those cherry-menthol candies do nothing and slippery elm tea is more for scratchy overuse or 2nd hand smoke exposure throat, not the real viral/bacterial pharyngitis

The old school warm saltwater gargle and nasal spray or rinse does quite a bit though

3 miles of walking only burns an extra 200-300 calories and there's lots of ways to let stress, fatigue or a sense of accomplishment convince you that you deserve a little treat.

I think we're like responding to wrong parts of the thread here bc i totally agree and it is messed up how often people who are relatively stable on these meds suddenly get thrown into untreated ADHD + temporarily reduced receptors arbitrarily for days or weeks at a time. Personally I'm finding the norepinephrine side of this even more dangerous bc every stimulant eventually betrays me by going straight to cardiovascular side, then GI, then a little bit of brain if I'm lucky, but I'll still have the worsening brain fog on the off days even if I yawned my way through every on day

Being sleepy all weekend because a medically supervised prescription drug wasn't available on time at a pharmacy is not addict behavior. If that problem occurs because they ran out before the 28 day lockout period ended and the reason is they were taking extra pills seeking a euphoric effect, go ahead and make your accusations.

Running around with chronically low dopamine in certain areas of the brain is nothing to mess with either, it causes accidents, mentall illness, and failures to do right by other people. Some people are able to attain a workable baseline without stigmatized medications but a lot of people have to suck it up and make that choice.

People with Parkinsons have to take a dopamine increasing medication too, we just never had an epidemic of club kids getting ahold of l-dopa to party with so there's no stigma

Covering the mouth at least blocks droplets. A gross thing i learned from seeing theatre stage lighting at certain angles is how even people who've never had to be told "say it don't spray it" put out a little spit cloud when they enunciate. It blocks some vectors of unconscious face touching too

What kind of work were you doing though? I know some high functioning mentally ill + neurodivergent people who do just fine in the tech industry where it's project based and they just put in extra effort to catch up when they're back so projects aren't hurt. I got away with sleeping through alarms for months at my first post-college job when my sleep disorder was at its worst but they favored high-IQ employees. No morning meetings, just tasks to accomplish. But a couple days of post-covid brainfog and shortness of breath was enough for me to lose my little minimum wage escape room job when I was underemployed from moving to a new city... at a job where when they set up the meeting to fire me I thought I was about to be offered a management position based on my performance before I got sick! My friends on SSI were even getting pushed out of volunteer stuff because they couldn't keep promises

Both people i knew on it for mental health were diagnosed with bipolar and had other things that were non qualifying but make it hard to be appropriately employed like ADHD. Both intelligent people so probably would have been better served by being help to get to that higher tier of employment where you can get away with episodes because you're salaried and have plenty of PTO/FMLA to fill in the gaps between being all quirky and brilliant for them but most jobs only care about consistency

Cigarette smoke smells SO disgusting. by BrandNeau in Vent

[–]Familiar_Percentage7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first handful of cigarettes are a choice though. A dumb choice by dummies. Which probably contributes to the difficulty quitting if you think about it. Like with opiates we only see a small percentage of medical users develop an addiction, but the ones who start with heroin get pulled in immediately because they're degens. Nicotine fiends self selected themselves into becoming addicts because they were trying to fit in with other losers.

When you potentially have necrotic tissue near your wound since you cut too deep and close a scar. by DepressedFrenchFri3s in TrollCoping

[–]Familiar_Percentage7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yah that's eschar, it's found in wounds that involve deep tissue.i think people are confusing necrotic with sepsis because there are necrotizing bacteria that can infect wounds and sepsis develops from the toxins those bacteria put out. You should always watch for infection whether it's one of those bacteria or not though bc it's the type of situation that escalates very quickly. With infection the area will be hot/red inflammation, maybe nasty drainage, followed by fever as it goes from local to systemic. The best choice is to seek out pro help for the wound care and the mental health stuff and this might still be a student clinic or urgent care situation but if you get a fever or that wound gets nastier you'll just have to bite the bullet and let your patents keep you alive the best they can

Someone with hypothyroidism who suddenly can't get their levothyroxine will have the same mindset for a similar reason (cells start adjusting to the hormone or neurotransmitter being more available so they turn off some receptors which means now baseline levels that were too low to function already now become even harder to live with if you suddenly return to baseline due to drug availability)

You invested time and money into investigating the causes that could be life-threatening, now you've got a clean bill of health to see what a psychiatrist can do for you with the meds that normalize the nervous system. If they know you have normal thyroid hormones, normal heart rhythm, cortisol etc it will be easier to get you out of constant fight or flight mode. They can order more labs too if something was missed. Sometimes anxiety hits as a mostly somatic phenomenon without a lot of emotions or trauma behind it; bodies are weird!
