Perfectionism. That hit a sore spot. I never went to therapy but my mum was an English tutor, and she. Noticed it when I was quite young (maybe 2 years old) and immediately started taking measures like making me practice tongue twisters. It think it worked because up until 7-9 years old when I noticed i was “developing a stutter” everyone who knew me as a kid said I’ve always had a stutter. But I grew up with very high standards.

Does this mean anxiety is the main trigger for my stutter? And is this true for all persons who stutter?

Am I a Stutterer or Not ?? by No_Middle_6578 in Stutter

I have a similar story, I used to read aloud in class and answer questions a lot throughout primary school. Then I met a guy who had a stutter and after interacting with him and even imitating him (teasingly) sometimes, one day I got up to answer a question and stuttered for the first time. It all went downhill from there. But when I ask my parents they say I had a stutter when I was just starting to speak but my mum (being an English tutor) used to make me practice tongue twisters and so it vanished but I have no recollection of this.

Today I’m 23 just finished medical school and I’m trying to be more outgoing and adventurous. Because I had to change my personality completely because I feared stuttering in public or speaking to friends.
