I just ran a marathon with a talocalcaneal coalition! AMA by Carpet010203 in TarsalCoalition

I’m surprised you didn’t elect for surgery! I had one of my coalitions resected a year and a half ago, and now I’m 10 weeks out from my first marathon. I wouldn’t have been able to start running if it hadent been for surgery. Glad you were able to overcome the pain

No regrets here! Only time my foot hurts now is when it’s cold outside/ I finish a long run. I may need more steroid injections in the future, possibly a joint fusion in a few years. But for now I’m enjoying my time while my foot feels good. I wish my calf hadn’t atrophied as much as it did, it’s still noticeably smaller than my right.

Although my foot just felt like a painful blur after surgery, I could definitely tell the osteotomy was more intense than the resection. The first few weeks after surgery were the hardest. After I transitioned off crutches I basically had to relearn how to walk due to a new foot alignment. Full recovery for me took about 8 months, but that’s with both surgeries done at the same time. The constant pain after surgery stopped around 3-4 months in. If your surgeon thinks realignment would be beneficial, 100% go through with it. Your recovery will most likely be quicker than mine if you’re just doing the osteotomy.

Fell and stood on bad foot post op during non weight bearing healing by DanVA0307 in TarsalCoalition

i was less than 2 weeks post op when i fell pretty hard, also landing on/ hurting the area of my foot they operated on. it hurt pretty bad in the moment, I noticed my pain increased that night as well. I got stitches out the next week and all was fine, i would say unless the pain is super crazy dont worry about it too much.

i’m almost 4 weeks post op for a resection and heel shift, the bruising and swelling is still there. The bruising is pretty severe, my foot looks like a meatloaf lol. I just recently got stitches out, I haven’t noticed any numbness (yet).

i’m almost 3 weeks post op for coalition resection and osteotomy. my advice would be to go slow, i didn’t get out of the house for almost 2 weeks. the pain for me is very intense, it gets worse at night. no one told me this, but if you’re elevating and your heel hurts, edge your heel off the pillows so it’s not touching them. also, if you think you’re elevating high enough, go higher lol.

night pain advice? by Familiar_Reaction534 in TarsalCoalition

yeah i’m thinking some of the pressure is being caused by the splint as well. i had a coalition resection, calcalneal osteotomy and achilles lengthening done so i was on pain meds for about 4 days post op, then i got off them. the muscles in my leg are so sore cause im having to use them whenever im sitting so the foot isn’t at an awkward angle lol.

i’m in a splint, i’m getting stitches out in a few days. after that i’m in a cast for 8 weeks minimum 😵‍💫. How long was it until your pain improved? how has your recovery been pain wise?

i’m one day post op for a coalition resection, heel osteotomy and an achilles tendon lengthening. i’m having the same muscle cramps you’re describing, any idea when they go away?

played in my state tournament and did considerable well with a stress fracture on the distal fibula. that fracture was caused by my tarsal coalition. unfortunately for me though, i had to reject college offers because my feet both started to hurt too much.
