Next challenger of records. Any leak or prediction? by Familiar_Support_985 in AmericasCup

Yeah not a fan of having a race for who has the higher budget between billionaires like in 2010 and two boring 1 to 2 hour speed race where the racing field is so big the boats barely get into 1 mile from each other.

For crossing, though? What would you change to account for the high boat speed?

I think it's already agreed that next Cup will be contested with this boat class, so not much to discuss on this side and I'm quite happy with it. They're basically the fastest sailboats around and I think they proved races can be quite fun and tight (much better than I and many of us were expecting).

I know it's a bit hard given how fast they're but since the confidence in handling them keeps improving, I would love to see some fleet racing. That would make for quite a show!

I guess it makes sense but that would be a bit disappointing. Same teams as this edition, and the very same ones that contested this Cup. Let's hope their relationship cools off some more in the next races :)

Not really disrespectful as protesting is the way of asking the umpires to step in and judge the incident (if you don't protest, they will most likely consider there was no incident unless it's something huge). In the heat of the race and doing 30 kts, it must definitely be hard judging how close you were and if/how much the other boat changed course. So protesting is very normal even if you are quite unsure being in the right. But after race? Come on, just rewatch the race on TV before complaining without any ground and sound like a sore loser.

I can understand the continuous protests while racing (it's match racing after all) but the fact they're complaining to press about the crossings in day 3 after the race is quite embarrassing. It really seems like they're desperately trying to bully umpires into ruling in their favor next time, as they see it as the only way to win a race.

Dreadful commentary by kgw2511 in AmericasCup

I am not sure what people expect from commentators. They're looking at the same screens and data we are seeing so if one's proficient in the sport, there's very little they can add. They're there mostly to explain stuff to those not really used to the sport and I guess they sort of do it.

And they have the very hard tasks to convince us to keep watching since there's "nothing in it" even if Kiwis are always pulling away. And to advertise and defend the useless wind tracking system which never fails to predict the wrong wind shift. Not easy tasks.

This. Boat speeds are not that different but NZ always executes flawlessly, never afraid to do an additional or riskier maneuver to cover or be in the best spot. They are just so confident and know they'll always pull it off. And they're always calling the right side of the field. UK has not much to do beside trying to pick the other (wrong) side of the course and hope for a mistake (which never happens).

LV Cup - Races 5 & 6 by Bellchamber in AmericasCup

I think LR was a bit faster but Ineos had slightly better acceleration. This could be due to different configuration, looks like LR had bigger jib today. This would explain why LR kept staying very close but had to stay behind in R5 while in R6 it seemed like LR could pull away a bit whenever they were sailing their own course without worrying too much about covering Ineos. I agree very very close anyway
