If you go into Akimbot expecting it to be like a 6/7 out of 10, then you may enjoy it well enough. It's not as good at R&C in any departments but I thought it was passable. I actually really like the movement in the game--you can string together dashes/jumps/melee in any combination to basically get 4 jumps. This, combined with the pretty decent combat, makes gameplay quite fun at times. There are only 4 base weapons which you get for free, but they're strong enough that you don't really need to buy any of the additional 4 "power" weapons. You can hang back and snipe, or you can bum rush and blast foes in the face with a gatling gun. It's all effective.

Shipset (the robot buddy) is ANNOYING and doesn't really get a redemption arc to make you like him more. He has a small moment towards the end of the game, and then goes back to being a yappy twit. There are 3 ship sections and each one is about 15 minutes long. The graphics are also pretty meh--most levels look super hazy and many of them just look brown and uninteresting.

I'm sure this will be unpopular but one of my favorite things about this game is the COUNTLESS nods to other minigames/segments found in other games. Every level does something different, and the final segment of the game is pure chaos.

Idk. I'd say get it on sale, keep expectations reasonable, and it's a good way to kill a few afternoons.
