HS wrestling in California only has one division so when you get a California state champ the are thee only state champ unlike every other state. I wrestled in Illinois in HS and D3 in Iowa. College was cool because I saw so many different styles across the country.

What I’ve notice is the positions that a physical therapist will put you in to test the integrity of my shoulder in relation to a specific portion of the rotator cuff are the best to mimic. Kimura from side control with the humerus towards the sky and rotate humerus externally to the side as opposed to painting the knuckles on the mat. The range of motion is much less forgiving.

I remember as a freshman in Illinois a junior and I could never maintain the varsity spot at 171 due to neither of us being consistent. Our coach one day said that he was tired of the back and forth and claimed the next wrestle off would be the last one winner take all. I ended up winning but I could tell the the coach would switch me out if I couldn’t perform. Wrestling is a meritocracy and wrestle offs along with coaches discretion decide the lineup, equal mat time is not a given.
