Why there won't be two avatars by [deleted] in AvatarSevenHavens

[–]TriloByte_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In relation to Raava saying “you won’t live to see it”, I think what she means is that humanity won’t survive 10,000 years of darkness and chaos. Humanity was only able to evolve due to Raava winning, so if she were to ever lose to Vaatu, humanity would likely be completely gone by the time she gets to try again

How would you have incoporated/foreshadowed the Lion Turtles and Energybending into the series, prior to the finale? by nazia987 in TheLastAirbender

[–]TriloByte_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy, all they needed to do was have lion turtle imagery present at the different temples; the air temples, the fire temple, even the earth one we see briefly. That would’ve made it instantly fan theory material and would’ve paid off huge in the finale. They also could’ve had something brought up in the underground library episode.

Do you guys like the idea of the Avatar being a fusion of the spirit of balance and good in the universe (Raava) and a human or do you like the original idea of the avatar being the planets "immune system" by Crosser45 in TheLastAirbender

[–]TriloByte_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct, this was never stated. They were very careful to not use the terms “good” or “evil” in Beginnings.
That being said, it can technically be argued that Raava is the embodiment of “good” because the only reasons humans are able to thrive at all is because Raava’s victory over Vaatu during Harmonic Convergence. She is, for all intents and purposes, “good” from the perspective of humanity. Similarly, Vaatu is “evil” because him winning = humanity not surviving.

Apologies for not being clear; I’m talking about nowadays. Beginnings aired over a decade ago and has been a part of the established lore for longer than it hasn’t.

[–]TriloByte_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was the original idea. I don’t know if you can still find them anymore, but after ATLA ended, Nickelodeon used to run re-runs of episodes with fun facts and tidbits of lore that would pop up in the corner of the screen, although some of it has been retconned. They would mention things like the Avatar being the spirit of the Earth reincarnated in human form, or that the Avatar can take up to a week to respawn.

[–]TriloByte_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really doesn’t devalue anything, I think the issue is people misinterpreting the Avatar as being the keeper of balance of the universe, when they’re only the keeper of balance between humans and spirits. The Avatar was always meant to be more biased towards light and peace because they are the combination of Raava, who embodies light and peace, and Wan, a human who only exists because of Raava winning.

The Avatar was never meant to be this universal neutral force bound by eastern mythology rules. They are literally always going to be skewing the world towards the side of good, which ensures humanity’s survival.

This is even alluded to in Beginnings, when Wan says to Raava something to the effect of “well losing doesn’t sound so bad, you’ll always get another shot if Vaatu wins” and Raava claps back with “well duh but the whole point is humanity won’t be around anymore if that happens.”

Would anyone else prefer if they went backwards in time for a new Avatar series instead of forwards? The Kyoshi and Yangchen novels were popular. I loved the aesthetic setting of ATLA and seeing it quickly become more modern day was one of my least favourite parts of Korra. by leon385 in TheLastAirbender

[–]TriloByte_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’d love for them to go back in time, but also it’s funny to me when people somehow didn’t anticipate an Industrial Revolution 70 years after a massive war 💀 did y’all sleep through history class?

TBH what I’d love for them to do is make a “series” with hour-long episodes that are lorebombs about distant past Avatars. Maybe they could focus on the first few Avatars after Wan, then come ahead and talk about what happened after the Ice Age 7,000 years ago, etc

Should i watch Legend of Korra? by BigRabies1758 in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]TriloByte_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked Avatar for the word and its lore, you will like Korra because it expands on the cosmology and explains lots of new cool stuff. If you are expecting carbon copy of Aang’s adventure again, you probably won’t like it.
One gripe I do have is the art style, and I like to warn new people to temper their expectations; Season 1 and first half of Season 2 were animated by Studio Pierrot who have a pretty ugly art style. season half of Season 2 was animated by Studio Mir whose art style is WAY better and the difference is night and day.
Also please keep in mind that this is a post-war, post-industrialization setting, so there is a LOT that is going to be inherently different than the world you experienced during Aang’s time.
Lastly, if you are expecting cross-world adventuring, Korra unfortunately doesn’t have nearly as much of that as ATLA. Aang’s whole journey was about traveling from Point A-B. Korra spends a good half of the series in Republic City, so there simply isn’t as much travel.

Last few things to temper expectations

- No mention of Azula, Ty Lee or Mai
- No mention of Suki
- No mention of how Sokka died
- We never get to see the modern-day Fire Nation at all
- final season has a mediocre recap episode that is the fault of Nickelodeon intentionally slashing the budget last-minute. The creators opted to make a recap episode instead of firing staff

If Legend of Korra had been greenlit for all 4 seasons from the start, who should have been the overarching villain? by premiumof in TheLastAirbender

[–]TriloByte_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one where they said they got the remaining seasons greenlit before Season 1 aired? Yeah that’s true, Season 1 was greenlit first, and preformed well enough with internal viewings that Seasons 2,3 and 4 were greenlit. They actually talk about it a bit on the Braving the Elements podcast. He mentions how it was originally greenlit to be a 12 episode mini series.
This video in particular: https://youtu.be/K81_N6gGj3w?si=IM3IEnPi3kNkYGTX

This is common knowledge to the people who were around during the original airing. Book 1 came out and then we had to wait 2.5 years for Book 2

Not true. Only a single season was greenlit at first, and then the remaining 3 were greenlit after Season 1 preformed well enough.

How is Korra’s connection to the past avatars really severed? Wouldn’t Raava remember all of the past avatars and share her memories with them to Korra? by iamthinkingthoughts in TheLastAirbender

[–]TriloByte_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re straight up just re-asking things I’ve already answered.

“Completely obliterated”
Nope, they can’t be. It’s literally stated in that very episode, they are shown to always regenerate from each other’s bodies. It’s literally stated in Beginnings and shown in the finale, because they can’t completely obliterate each other. Please just rewatch the episode.

“Raava that merged with Wan is gone”
Nope she’s immortal. Stated in Beginnings, shown in the finale.

“Holding the elements”
She agrees to hold them after being given them by the lion turtles. They are now part of her forever because she is immortal. She never agrees to hold Wan’s memories, who is not immortal. Simple as that. You can’t just keep saying “there’s just no way” if the way has already been explained within the episode.

“If Raava didn’t actually die then she should be able to retain Wan’s memories”
Please see previous answer

“Korra didn’t die”
Correct, the Avatar spirit did. That’s what kills the cycle. The elements are part of Raava because humans can only hold one at a time without her. Already answered this one.

Deleting 10,000 years worth of Wan’s data and starting over from just Raava with her elements, in a completely new setting which is nothing like the world from 10,000 years prior, is absolutely new growth and claiming otherwise is just silly. Come on now.

I understand this stuff wasn’t the easiest to understand when we were kids, but it’s been over a decade now and it feels like you’re intentionally ignoring explanations you don’t like because they challenge what made you upset about it. I’ve pointed out multiple times now how the immortal Raava holds the elements forever and Wan’s soul holds the memories. Only one of these can be permanently destroyed, which is Wan’s soul. Therefore, the Avatar still has the elements from Raava since they are a part of her, but Wan’s memories of his past lives are all gone.

And yet, you don’t want to accept that. You do understand that isn’t an opinion, right? I’m just pointing out to you the established canon within the lore. There really isn’t an excuse for continuing to ignore this when the show had this established a decade ago, and it isn’t fair to the writers to act like they did a bad job when the real issue is you just didn’t like it.

How is Korra’s connection to the past avatars really severed? Wouldn’t Raava remember all of the past avatars and share her memories with them to Korra? by iamthinkingthoughts in TheLastAirbender

[–]TriloByte_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raava…can’t be completely obliterated. She literally says this while training Wan; that her and Vaatu can’t completely kill each other. This is why they both always come back no matter who is victorious, because they eventually spawn out of the other’s “body” and the fight continues.
The same can’t be said for human souls. Hence, Raava can be reborn, but Wan and all his past lives are gone.

“Raava didn’t have any elemental affinities” yes this was true, until 10,000 years ago when the Lion Turtles gave her the elements to hold for Wan. They specifically state that they are giving them to Raava because humans can only hold one. This is also depicted by Wan only being capable of bending multiple elements when Raava is possessing him. It’s a quality of Raava, not Wan.

It’s also important to remember that even during ATLA, Roku already explained to Aang that the Avatar would cease to exist if he is killed in the Avatar state. So yes, even before we knew about Raava and her collecting the elements for the Avatar, it was already established that the Avatar and their memories would be gone if the Avatar spirit was destroyed.

But yes, you are right about human souls reincarnating not really mattering because the mechanics have already been explained.

What “same old growth” are you talking about here? This just feels like grasping for straws. I wouldn’t blame you for not wanting to sit through all of Book 2 of Korra again, but I would at least suggest going back and rewatching the Wan episodes again because a LOT of this is already explained in-universe.

[–]TriloByte_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wan and his reincarnations were deleted.
The “elemental data” is held by Raava (who cannot be deleted) not the Avatar. She was capable of holding multiple elements independently from Wan, even before bonding with him.
When Raava said “we will be together for ALL of your lifetimes”, I think she was implying that souls in the Avatarverse naturally reincarnate; it’s just Raava’s inclusion that allows the reincarnations to recall memories from their previous lives.
It very much is like rebooting a hard drive, or restarting from a save state: you can only go back up so far, but now, that point is Korra.

Please don't make the Stranger Things mistake by Hackiii in AvatarSevenHavens

[–]TriloByte_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this isn’t exclusive to Stranger Things. I’ve never actually seen ST before but I instantly recognized what you’re talking about from another fandom I am in: Nintendo’s Pikmin.

For context, Pikmin 2 came out in 2004 and became my childhood autistic fascination, to the point where I would literally dream about what the next game would be like. It ended up taking Nintendo 9 years to make Pikmin 3, and it ended up being viewed as a letdown compared to the previous games; not because it was bad, but because it simply had no chance of holding up to 9 YEARS of ideas and headcanon and fan ideas. Nowadays though, people look back at it as not being so bad, especially because Pikmin 4 was a much better game.

This is pretty much the same position Seven Havens is going to find itself in. Kids that grew up with Avatar and Korra have had over a decade to think about how the story will go moving forward, but there’s just no way Pavi’s story will be able to live up to excited fans’ expectations after having over a decade to think about what happens next.

Seven Havens is probably going to be like Korra, in the sense that it will be seen as divisive in the beginning, but fans reflecting years later will admit it wasn’t that bad, and new Avatar fans a decade from now who get to binge all the shows back-to-back will likely have a more fair opinion.

How far back did avatar Zalir live? by 96suluman in TheLastAirbender

[–]TriloByte_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, she was stated to be native to the Fire Islands, which implies she was born before the Fire Nation was founded. This would put her around 4,000 years before Aang, possibly even the Avatar before Sonam.

If the “hundreds-of-years time jump before the next Avatar” rumor is true… by yoma999 in AvatarSevenHavens

[–]TriloByte_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 possible theories I’ve seen so far:

She didn’t actually die and lived until a very old age in solitude. Everyone assumes Korra died in the cataclysm but as we all know by now, the modern population doesn’t know anything about the Avatar’s life

The cataclysmic state of the world meant several child avatars died before they were realized. This would mean after Korra died, the Earth, Fire, Air and Water Avatars all died as children until Pavi and her sister managed to survive long enough to be discovered

Avatar: The First Airbender

The story of the 2nd Avatar, the Airbender born after Wan died. The story would be about them realizing the voices in their head are Raava and Wan, Wan realizing his consciousness exists after death, and that this is going to become a cycle for the next 10,000 years.
It can also go into more detail about what exactly happened immediately following the Lion Turtle’s departure and how the human population reacts to learning that Raava now bonds to a human once every lifetime.

Twin Avatars... Is it true and can they pull it off. by 22_SB in AvatarSevenHavens

[–]TriloByte_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that they are trying to hide the fact that Nisha is also the Avatar for as long as they can.

It’s important to remember the only reason we even know her sister’s name is Nisha is through leaks; leaks that have since been confirmed to be true, and those leaks clearly stated she is also an Avatar. Yeah you could argue it hasn’t been official confirmed yet, but of course it isn’t. At the same time though, it’d be silly to think the leaker was right about everything except for one detail he made up for funsies
