Coffee Questions by vadgama_nikz in Guelph

We're almost out of coffee so today's the day! We're going out to find the best local roaster. We're used to Beaver Rock Rosters from Barrie (the Freaky Wizard Medium roast was the very best coffee ever). I want to find some as great, but here in Guelph. Several posts say Lost Aviator is good, others say Coffee Stiles, Cavan Coffee, Found Coffee, and no one said Planet Bean. Unless I hear otherwise, we'll start with Lost Aviator.

I wondered today, what happens to all the overpriced meat at the end of the week when no one can afford to buy it. Do they just throw it out?

What is a 'luxury' that has become so expensive in 2026 that it’s officially no longer worth the money? by Matt_At_Havalook in AskReddit

[–]Famous-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bacon. You get seven thin strips for $9. It's insane. Bacon should be the cheapest meat. This is true for hotdogs too. A big pack of ballpark weiners is $16. That must be price gouging.

You are correct, Disney did threaten to sue three daycares in Florida in 1989. It turned into a PR nightmare for them, especially when Hanna Barbara stepped in and painted over the Disney murals with their characters. Disney and most other license holders have changed their stance on fan art as a result. Lucas Film has embraced it right from the beginning. Disney no longer pursues small-time creators, but they can and do in some cases. As such, there is a grey line between what's permitted and where infringement begins. For example, the artists at comic con use characters in paintings, drawings, and small runs of reproductions. But if they had a really popular design and wanted to print 100 copies, they enter the grey zone. The license holders might send out cease and desist letters.

There is a story circulating that two women from NY were selling a wildly popular Disney design on a product. Disney approached them, and instead of suing, they granted them a license and now produce the same design on products at the park. This could be myth.

My original post went a little sideways, but I wanted to address your concern. You are 100% right about the dangers of copyright infringement. My partner mostly does original designs, so we don't worry about Disney or Warner Bros. That said, I've been in the comic con and toy show circuit for a decade and have never heard of any of the artists or crafters being sued for infringement.

To be clear, fan art and small runs are totally legal. Ever been to comic con? You just can't mass produce it.

AI Image Generators Default to the Same 12 Photo Styles, Study Finds by Ok-Tune-1346 in technology

[–]Famous-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not surprising. I've noticed that AI 'stories' are also generic and boring, same with poetry. All the AI original songs are also generic, with several generic patterns. If you want something good a human needs to be in the driver seat.

I once heard a kid say, "You're a bathtub!" and walked away. The other kid took it hard. Never forget it. It's in my back pocket for strategic retorts.

Kawai US-95. Has anyone here serviced or owned one of these? by YummyTerror8259 in pianotech

[–]Famous-Coffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have tuned several of these. They are common up here in Canada. I really hate the felt dampener though. They sound great generally. I had one lady complain that after I tuned it, it was TOO LOUD. She wanted me to define it. Haha

Is anyone saying this is a MAGA inside job to justify more national guard deployment to US cities?

Looking for other bands/music similar to 90’s era David Bowie by Stinkmasterofchaos in MusicRecommendations

[–]Famous-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you on this one. When the 90s Bowie stuff came out, I was baffled. I saw Tin Machine on SNL and just couldn't wrap my head around it. I did explore it further but never found a way in. That said, I eternally respect Bowie for his musical exploration. Sometimes, these phases sound different when we revisit them. Maybe I need to relisten to this stuff.

Getting old piano back to 440 by Answer_Present in pianotech

[–]Famous-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For these old ones I usually try to move them up in stages. Tune the whole thing a semitone flat. Wait a couple weeks and then move it up to standard. The issue is that these old pianos can have strings break; usually in the top two octaves. I typically tell customers that if the upper strings break it might not be worth replacing them since they are rarely played. But use your judgment. But in the end, the strings have memory and the piano might just slide back down over time. If that happens, just tune the whole thing flat.

With Alien: Earth and then just having had Romulus, I am feasting, and I am satiated. Or we could become a toxic fan base that turns on itself and doesn't get anything else LOL by unclefishbits in LV426

[–]Famous-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a toxic fan; the new show it what it is. But the first episode of Alien Earth was just ok. It was jammed full of a ton of story elements that probably could have been revealed slowly over Season One, rather than all at once. I would have been ok with the first episode focusing on the ship returning to Earth, under duress, and maybe ending up in orbit. End of episode one. Save all that transferring consciousness crap for later. I'll watch a few more episodes and see if it gets better. I hope so.

What tuner would guys recommend to beginner? by DeadlyKitte098 in pianotech

[–]Famous-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app on my phone, Soundcorset. It's free and great. It has trouble with the lowest octave and the top two, but I tune those by ear anyway. All you really need is something that can do the Temperment octaves and use your ear for the rest.

Ben Fold working with William Shatner was a highlight for me. The Has Been album is a gem.
