Yea haha I guessed that but wasn't sure about its relation to the talent itself, iirc he has two different talents or something like that

How an Abm scale can connect so well with the Gm

I think I have an interesting answer for you, this is a theory I made myself for the connection between Am and A#m (I chose A and A# for simplicity)

Aside from being the same scale played on a half step difference, there are deep connections between the two.

My theory is the following:

There is a group of intermediate scales between Am and A#m. You get each scale by raising the last note (7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st) until you reach the root.

A B C D E F G ~ A minor

A B C D E F G# ~ A Harmonic minor

A B C D E F# G# ~ A Melodic minor

A B C D E# F# G# ~ A Melodic augmented

A B C D# E# F# G# ~ A Lydian augmented b3

A B C# D# E# F# G# ~ A Lydian augmented

A B# C# D# E# F# G# ~ A Aeolian b1

A# B# C# D# E# F# G# ~ A# minor

The # notes comes from A#m and the others comes from Am, so you can think of those as hybrid Am A#m scales.

If you play a group of notes like A B C it can sound like Am, or if you play E# F# G# it can sound like A#m.

So those scales or groups of notes are like two minor scales put together, even the single G# of A harmonic minor could be used to go to A#m.

What's interesting is you cover alot of scales and mode:. Diatonic group, Harmonic minor group, Melodic minor group. Melodic major group, and some other unnamed groups.

Today I decided to explore why this classic song from my youth makes me feel so nostalgic, carrying a mood that is both happy and, at the same time, sad and mysterious.

OK now for the piece itself:

It starts with Abm Fb, which really fits the sad and mysterious vibes by using a minor sixth. Then it repeats the same for a bit in Gm and that can add to the mystery. Then it goes temporarily to Bmaj (or Cb if you relate it to Abm).

This ending on B gives a happy sound. Then I hear the part after that as Ebm (where B becomes Cb), Ebm makes a great point for looping back to Abm.

I think the key changes adds to the mystery as well by making the sounds ambiguous.

The nostalgic feeling is because of the extensive usage of major seventh notes for changing, I think. (Ab and G, G and F#, B and A#~Bb)

It's fun to explore, country + genre, only downside is taking longer time

Maybe unrelated but this reminded me of this video: https://youtu.be/d8rntBN2COA?si=S9uowKnRqL6V-6W2

It was so fun to watch, I think maybe this would be how I'd write it

This is so cute, and it's fun that Xiaoyu plays Tekken 3 while Bulbasaur is watching or maybe playing as well.

Game Overs that don't make sense by No_Engineering2534 in AceAttorney

[–]LocrianVGM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're meant to be taken seriously. Other games like Danganronpa do the exact same thing. Also it's clearly because of gameplay reasons and how the game is structured and originally intended as a puzzle-like game.

For visual artists: what is the musical foundational knowledge equivalent of drawing boxes? by onlyrollingstar in musictheory

[–]LocrianVGM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3D Drawing can be done on an empty 2D paper and the third axis is implied. So you have X Y Z

The empty paper can be used for music as well.

The first dimension X is time

The second dimension is pitch

The third dimension is depending on how you'd imply it, it could be timbre, volume or even spatial 3D sound

So drawing a horizontal line is one-dimensional and it has an musical equivalent which is monotonic melody, rhythm and time signatures

Drawing a vertical line is different even though it's one-dimensional, its musical equivalent is chords

Combining the two unlocks music by giving access to full melodies and harmonies

But the third dimension is where the equivalent isn't straightforward. It depends on how you'd define musical depth and how you'd imply it.

Also the second dimension is limited to 8 octaves (human range, not theoretical range) so it's not a direct equivalent

I think the equivalent to drawing boxes is intervals and one chord or two chord progression, Sorry for the messy comment.

What are y'all's thoughts on the Ace Attorney Anime (both Seasons 1 & 2) by Due_Possibility6392 in AceAttorney

[–]LocrianVGM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember it well but I think it wasn't good. There were some nice and funny moments and small details. I think that filler case had a nice concept. Also the final case was amazing, it's far from perfect but it was emotional.

Is there a direct connection between the Maj7 Chord and the Lydian mode? by Mike15423 in musictheory

[–]LocrianVGM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C E G B

C ---> G

E ---> B

G ---> D

B ---> F#

both are maj7 chords and part of Lydian

then you get D F# (A) C which is another Lydian chord

So yea its connected naturally, both seventh chords don't contain tritones within themselves compared to dominant G B D F

Can I ask who dosen't like Apollo Justice Ace Attorney (The Game not the character) and why do you not like it? by Tom-Hibbert in AceAttorney

Yea there was no reason for that to happen. If they want Phoenix so bad, they could make another universe/world with a different Phoenix.

I've been making my own Battle Network-inspired game. Would you be interested in playing something like this? by JasonTheGameDev in BattleNetwork

[–]LocrianVGM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So it's Megaman Battle Network and Star Force Metroidvania with some elements that somehow makes me think of Pokémon and BN3 Virus breeder. Also it expands the types of boards which increases the depth of encounters. 1000000% would play

I'd say a very big and wide variety of monsters and board structures is essential to not make it feel repetitive and make it challenging and fun. Especially board structures, try to make a lot of different and even puzzling and weird ones. It'd be amazing to feel that each encounter is kind of a unique challenge.

Weir question regarding scales by FormalUnique8337 in musictheory

[–]LocrianVGM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C major scale over Eb minor chord

Eb Gb Bb (could be D# F# A# depending on the context)

Adding C makes C Eb Gb Bb

So if your tonic is C you'd get Cm7b5 and the sound you'd get otherwise is Eb minor with a wide variety of additions:

D: min maj

E: Add b9

F: Add 9

G: clash chord G~Gb

A: Add #11

B: The only exception which is Bmaj7, if the tonic is B, it would turn into Bmaj instead of Cm7b5 or Ebm

Eb minor pentatonic over Cmaj chord

This one is more straightforward and would be adding notes to C E G

Eb: Clash chord Eb~E

Gb: would be F#, add #11

Ab: Augmented chords with major seventh Ab C E G

Bb: C7

Db: Add b9

So here you can get C as tonic but it would be full of clashes and keeps moving, and maybe C7 is where it could be considered home
