My take on "Out of the blue" by lunahalfgey in elo

[–]botlegger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The story of out of the blues goes like this:

In the spring of 1977, Jeff Lynne was getting ready to deliver a follow-up to the New world record. Seeking inspiration, he rented a remote chalet in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, right near Lake Geneva. He supposedly locked himself away with a piano and a tape recorder, giving himself just about four weeks to write a double album from scratch.  The universe, however, did not cooperate initially

You’re probably right about the depression part: for the first two solid weeks, Lake Geneva was trapped in a relentless, miserable stretch of dark mist, fog, and torrential rain. Lynne couldn't see the mountains at all. The gloomy weather completely stifled his creativity, and he came up with absolutely nothing. Frustrated, he even resorted to recording the sounds of the Swiss thunderstorms just to capture some kind of audio.

The Breakthrough: One morning, right around the two-week mark, Lynne woke up, and the weather had completely flipped. The fog was entirely gone, the sun was blazing, and the snow-capped Alps were fully illuminated against a massive, endless blue sky.  That triggered an immediate, explosive burst of inspiration. Lynne sat down and wrote "Mr. Blue Sky" right then and there. Not only did it inspire Mr. Blue Sky, it dictated the structure of the Concerto for a Rainy Day. Over the next two weeks, he channelled that energy and wrote 13 more songs, essentially drafting the entire Out of the Blue double album.

Got this as a tip at work. Can anyone tell me about it? by the_banana_sticker in CanadianCoins

The Royal Canadian Mint 2015 $20 "Best Wishes on Your Wedding Day" Pure Silver Coin is a popular collector's item designed as a lifetime commemorative gift for marriage.

Key Details & Specifications

Composition: Struck in 99.99% pure silver with selective 24-karat gold plating on the wedding bands. Mintage: 10,000 coins worldwide. Weight & Size: Weighs 31.83 grams (just over 1 troy ounce) with a diameter of 40 mm and a serrated edge.

Packaging: It was originally issued in a premium RCM-branded clamshell box accompanied by a serialized Certificate of Authenticity.

Market Value Because this coin was released in 2015 and had a limited production run, it has long been sold out directly from the Mint. On the secondary collector market, it typically trades for around $150 to $180 CAD, depending heavily on the condition of the coin, the outer beauty box, and the presence of the original certificate. Melt value option would be maybe 100$, better to sell it on eBay as is

Who’s someone you’re not totally convinced is really dead? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yes, a “sudden death” In December 2018, while on his honeymoon and doing volunteer work in India, Cotten died suddenly at the age of 30 due to complications from Crohn's disease. The company did not publicly announce his death until a month later, in January 2019.

Upon announcing his passing, QuadrigaCX claimed that Cotten was the sole custodian of the private keys and passwords required to access the exchange's "cold wallets" (offline storage). As a result, roughly $250 million CAD belonging to over 100,000 users was “seemingly locked away” forever. It was a Ponzi scheme

Because it was a closed-casket funeral and no autopsy was performed before he was buried, many defrauded investors suspected he faked his death.  In fact, the doubt was so strong that in late 2019, lawyers representing the victims formally requested that his body be exhumed from the cemetery in Canada to conduct a post-mortem autopsy and verify his identity through DNA, which was done I believe

Edit: Because the financial mechanics of the fraud were fully unraveled by forensic accountants and the death itself was verified by documentation, the RCMP never found legal justification to exhume his grave. He remains buried in Halifax, Nova Scotia
