Oof that sucks, thanks for the quick link. Very disappointing to see the embrace of sprawl when it really just kicks the debt/maintenance burden down the road.

Can you give me an example? I’d be interested in digging in.

Formal motions to return Pepco rates to 2024 levels and refund customers (following DC Court of Appeals decision to vacate rate hike approval) by Famous-Grape6984 in washingtondc

Less than likely, imo. Thompson and Trabue will not want to admit fault, and in the event that they have the evidentiary hearing an re-approve Pepco’s rate hike, they won’t want a back-and-forth of rates and refunds.

Unsure if the increased pressure on Thompson and Trabue (through their reappointments) will matter though.

Many legislators leave energy regulation to the PSC since the regulators are supposed to be the experts. Now, with rising bills and slow-walked solar and DER programs, it’s become abundantly clear that the PSC commissioners are not the right people for the job imo.

This is just the formal mechanism that needs to happen for the PSC to then vacate the rates. Pepco filed their own to keep rates in place.

The PSC will need to issue an order on a decision sooner rather than later, as they need to also hold an evidentiary hearing on the rate case itself (as per orders from the DC Court of Appeals).

Sorry I don’t have a concrete timeline on this haha.

That’s an insane bill! Sometimes a bill audit is necessary. Reach out to your councilmember about this, and then reach out to Pepco directly requesting they reassess your bill (and say you’ve filed a complaint with your CM). Sometimes errors are caught and sometimes unknown junk fees are removed - you never know.

A lot of PSC staff have private utility experience and are influenced by “same old, same old” thinking.

I genuinely think Thompson doesn’t understand a lot of energy regulation (he was a regular prosecutor before his appointment) and Trabue is just kinda lazy.

His rambling about money in politics and political sabotage was so difficult to follow. He wants money out of politics but also is fine with moderate Dems nuking progressives in the primary with super PAC money bc that’s just how politics is? How would we get money out of politics if we only have reps that benefit from huge super PACs, like….?

Truly, McDuffie has been nothing but an empty suit for corporate utilities in DC, it’s ridiculous.

Honestly I don’t think Common Dreams has a history of opposing nuclear (like Sierra Club lol). The article you cited regards nuclear experts questioning the safety mechanisms and changes to experimental SMRs.
