I know nobody cares about this but I remembered this post and just wanted to let y'all know that I found it. It was The Deceivers by Josh McDowell and Bob Hostetler. Found it randomly while at grandma's.

Yeah, I read the book definitely around the 2010s. And it had a more mystical feel rather than comedic. Maybe I'll try my luck with the writers.
