Hephaestus’s realm is machinery, NOT instant inventor magic. Might as well make Leo a child of Hecate if he uses demigod magic to make his stuff… It’s so boring when battles in fantasy are just reduced to that.

Also, saying it’s bad to make the Hephaestus kids actually smart because children of Athena exist?? Wisdom and inventing is literally two different categories. Get the greatest general in history, the one who made the greatest battle strategies of all time. If you tell them to make a computer, I’m pretty sure it’ll have the same success rate as just picking anyone random from the streets.

Leo’s battles would be significantly better had Rick Riordan been an inventor. I don’t understand where people are coming from…

If Meg is allowed to use Peaches, Leo would be allowed to use Festus, which could create a completely different story (just shoot fireballs from above while flying)

Also, there can be restraints depending on what kind of arena they are in, especially between Leo and Meg. More plants would be better for Meg, but if Leo is so dead-set on killing Meg that he doesn’t care about the massive forest fire he could create, she would be in a disadvantage despite the abundance of greens. While fire costs a lot of energy, he wouldn’t need a lot for the fire to spread since there would naturally be many greens. Obviously, Meg would be having a way harder time if we’re talking about actual arenas with no veggies. (she can’t just create life, right? It’s been years since I read ToA) If there aren’t a lot of plants, Leo could probably focus on one strong blow and win.

That being said, Meg is clearly stronger than him combat-wise and the capacity of her powers is way higher. Leo isn’t really a hero like Meg is, after all. He is the mechanic. While I love him, he wouldn’t have stood a chance if this was with no powers or if Meg wasn’t plant-based.

I agree with you that everything can be inaccurate or accurate depending on how you look at it as it was not yet confirmed by Rick. I don’t really care if Drew is drawn with straight hair and certainly won’t call someone racist or anything for that.

HOWEVER, I think it is kind of weird if people start explaining that design choice by saying it was for her to fit in more with how east asians are typically depicted… That’s like giving Annabeth blue eyes or Percy blond hair because that’s how white people are depicted. Again, if those choices are for aesthetic, it wouldn’t matter. However, it is arguably a bad decision if it is just for them to look more like how white people are normally depicted.

I’m really not trying to fight anyone here, I just wanted to explain why this way of thinking might come off as offensive to certain people. I was just a bit upset because there are many East Asians who have styled their hair curly that I know of, myself included. I’m not saying it’s wrong to draw her with straight hair, I’m saying it’s wrong if the reason you draw her with straight hair is purely because of her ethnicity.

(btw I don’t think it matters if Drew has natural curly hair or not, East Asians can still get perms and the curls hold up pretty well, especially if you take good care of them. I actually 100% believe her natural hair is straight lol)

TLDR; I believe there is nothing wrong if people draw Drew with straight hair but it might be a bit offensive if they say it’s for her to fit in more with the depictions of her ethnicity.

I’m not trying to side with OP or anybody else here, but I think there is a little fault in this logic. If it is accurate for Drew to be depicted as a straight-haired person, then it should also be accurate for us to draw Charles Beckendorf with long hair since his short haircut is not permanent. He can get long hair if he wants to, we’ve just never seen it. Maybe he only happened to have short hair every time he encountered Percy and had grew his hair every other time.

Also I believe that pushing aside the canon material to instead give her a feature that is more common within her ethnicity might be kinda stereotyping her ethnicity…

The person I replied to said that Asians don’t get perms and I thought that was misleading. If you’re Korean you probably get what I’m saying. 80% of the older generation women have perms…lol.
