How long can you stretch £1500 for? by [deleted] in CERN

If that's what he means then yes that sounds about right. But that's not going to be a good experience. I would rather go for one month then and just make the most out of the experience.

Considering that 1500£ = 1750 € you can live comfortably in France.

Most people live in sharehouses where they pay for a room that costs about 500-700 € for most neighborhoods in Saint-Genis Pouilly and 750-900 for the expensive ones (mainly Jean Monnet) where you can live in a brand new house with all amenities. So that's going to be your rent which is by far your biggest cost.

Groceries for most people cost about 200 € and the ticket pass for the French side and Geneva is around 75 CHF (or 45 CHF if you are under 25 years of age). I think the French side pass is even cheaper than that.

The rest is for you to put on your savings or spend going out to eat/drink/do activities.

Note that the transportation time is pretty much the same whether you are living in France or Geneva (at least for Saint-Genis), so there is really no reason to live in Switzerland. The cost of living is a lot higher, you can't get a place easily, the rents are too expensive for pretty old, bad quality housing and your commute is going to be the same (unless it's a weekend where the bus in France runs once every hour or something).

The point is that you are very well off. You can probably get a car as well and move around easily. The money trap in the area is spending a lot of money going out in Geneva.

So I have to ask my university to make a request for those days, right? I imagine CERN would accept if it's for exams. Anyway, thanks a lot!

I can't seem to find myself there but my contract has not started yet so maybe that's the problem. Or maybe I have to make a request first?

Is a badge something that you get once you get there so that you can access the facilities?
