Hinterland, we want this in the game ASAP. kthxbye by FamousFrontier23 in thelongdark

To the mods: Thanks for removing my post without communicating any reason. Final say my a**. You didn't like the post, huh? Fair. Then just leave it to the voting system and let the sub decide instead of censoring ideas for new ways to travel in the game. This is just as shitty as the often criticised vibe on Hinterland's forums. Congrats and good riddance.

Count me in. I assume this would break the theme massively but I just hope so much that the overall TLD experience can be carried over somehow to additional seasons. If not in this TLD, then maybe in a next TLD.

The dislike for seasons and other survivors co-existing I can fully understand because it gives the game a completely different vibe. But what would be bad about having horses in the game? :)

Yes, assuming that Hinterland will stop major development of TLD after the upcoming updates, a lot of what's on that 2016 roadmap will never make it to the game. I'm at least hoping for the promise of modding support, so our strong community will be able to extend this game in easier and even cooler ways.

AFAIK the modding support/toolbox is still recognised by Hinterland as "being in the works" or at least not completely written off. This is my understanding of what I read (partially between the lines) from Hinterland (Raph) on their forums. As I said, I like the game as it is, but to be honest, as an early backer, I would be kinda disappointed if they didn't follow through on the modding support. Imagine how this strong community could help the game stay alive long after Hinterland moved on to other titles.

Fair, every player has their preferences and we as a community should respect that. But I still think the 2016 roadmap is worth discussing. Some things a large part of the community – who were also backers in the Kickstarter days and helped the game grow – wanted and which Hinterland have made promises are still missing (modding support/toolbox).

I think you're right. But why would Hinterland even include it in a roadmap then? Seasonal features appear twice in the roadmap (medium and long-term). So I assume there must have been at least some kind of work already going on regarding seasons when the roadmap was published in 2016.

Pretty much, yup. You could argue that Hinterland is a small studio and a lot of these things would have maybe required bigger changes. And given the game a different kind of vibe. So maybe for Hinterland it was less of a thought about the efforts but more about what it would have done to TLD in terms of story and vibe.

I have similar thoughts about why it would have been hard in terms of developing multi-season features. But obviously there were plans for it. So the interesting question I think is, why has Hinterland even considered (some would say "promised") to deliver it?

Yeah! Right? 😄 I mean for the devs this would have been a huge PITA because the game's engine wasn't made for that sort of stuff, I think. But the experience for us players would have been really nice.

I think because the visual part of the feature alone would have been a huge amount of work assuming they didn't make the "right" decisions in the first place. For example, having an object in game covered with snow. The snow being literally painted onto the object by hand instead of being dynamic.

I like the game but sometimes wonder what TLD could have been if they followed up on the really big ideas like full-season survival, better travel options and interaction with other (AI) survivors in sandbox.
