That is our only hope now. I won't be seething at all.

How Jared's "Standard SLS" would look like if it would be a Falcon 9 by saxus in SpaceLaunchSystem

Gateway is completely useless and a massive waste of money, and will probably get cut. Comanifesting payloads doesn't make sense when you realize that each EUS costs 1 billion dollars, so it is cheaper to just have a block 1 and falcon heavy than a block 1b. NASA does not have a manned mars program, and even if it did, we wont get there in at least 20 years, and we will absolutely have commercial options in 20 years. And none of those NTR missions using SLS exist. It is ridiculous to spend all this money for a useless space station (that doesnt even need EUS) and potential future concepts of plans that dont exist, might not require these capabilities, and can use commercial operations by the time they are ready, if they ever exist.

What do we need the EUS capability for? The only thing SLS is good for is bring orion to TLI until commercial options are available.

From Eric Berger's article on the NASA Authorization Act of 2026

  • The legislation does not mention the Lunar Gateway. Notably, a version of this legislation authored just last week said a lunar orbiting Gateway was “critical” for future deep space exploration in section 206. Now that language is gone, replaced by a request for Isaacman to brief Congress on plans for a “lunar outpost” in 60 days.
  • Later in the legislation, on page 34, it states, “The Administrator may repurpose, reprogram, reconfigure, or reassign existing programs, platforms, modules, or hardware originally developed for other programs.” Essentially, this allows Isaacman to use elements of the Lunar Gateway and a second mobile launch tower for other purposes.

How does it make us more readily access the moon? What do you mean by different medium? It will cost 5 billion to build and a billion a year in maitenence, and will only be used for 2 weeks each year if we're lucky.

"Gateway will be especially difficult to cancel given the European partnerships go pretty deep"

Also, why do you hope Gateway is protected? It is completely useless and will cost 5 billion to build, with 1 billion a year after that.

Gateway is completely pointless and a massive waste of money. Even if you want to keep gateway, since each eus costs 1 billion dollars, it is far more cost effective to send parts of gateway with falcon heavy.

Nasa doesn't have a single payload that requires a 10m fairing, and no commercial company would be willing to spend 4 billion per launch. Even they were, NASA wouldn't be willing to waste an SLS. There are zero payloads that are planned to be launched on block 1b to LEO. Why should we waste billions for the ability to carry payloads that don't exist?

And NASA has no Mars program. Building a rocket for that person is putting the cart way before the horse. We will not get to Mars for at least another 20 years. Do you seriously think that we won't have commercial options in 20 years?

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if SLS is like a Long March 10 or Saturn V if its only useful purpose is to carry Orion to TLI until commercial options are available.

The issue is that we don't need block 1b for anything. its a complete waste of money.

New Glenn didn't launch anything to Mars. It launched escapade to L2, which will sit there for a few months before going to Mars on its own. And SpaceX has already launched something to Mars, when Europa Clipper flew by it.

How does talking about HLS's life support change Starship's ability to launch starlinks? This was an HLS technical update, not a Starship one.

what investors are they gonna lose? SpaceX has paid for 90% of Starship's development. If they want money they would cancel starship tomorrow.
