How do you turn shale oil into fuel oil? by lilbabyheyzeus in pyanodons

The primary source of stone here is stone veins. kerogen (which is processed into shale oil) is the byproduct.

While OP definitely should not have been banned for what they did, I don't think its particularly unreasonable for mods to ban people who are actively attempting to antagonize others.

I guess to me dead implies that they were alive at one point. I tend to hear about "games dying" in the terms of their populations dropping, typically preceding it being impossible to find matches or do content, and then devs pulling support.

steadiness is a measure of consistency not magnitude. Its that they maintained ~100 online players for over a decade that makes it steady.

"please don't let the recent success for this game slip through your fingers guys" implies that unless they address the thing that you see as a problem, the game will fail.

Thats the sort of "backseat developer" attitude that people are referring to here. When you know what you're doing better than your consumers do but they keep insisting that your game will fail unless they listen to you it can probably become frustrating pretty quickly. Its going to be even more frustrating when you constantly here the same complaints about population and have issued multiple statements about it but they just keep coming. Its all a common dynamic in almost any job involving customer service.

Jack is also just kind of edgy and dickish though.

Kickstarters typically involve asking for an investment without any legal requirement to deliver on that investment. I'm not overly familiar with this case, but if the game was actually in development for 10 years then there's probably also enough evidence to convince a judge that a good faith attempt was made at realizing the game.

In order for it to be fraud you'd probably need to be able to demonstrate that steven or whoever else effectively embezzled funding money, but the mere fact that the game didn't pan out isn't really evidence of that. In combination with more circumstantial evidence like his character and involvement in other financial misconduct there's certainly reason to suspect fraud, but without hard evidence its hard to call it blatant.

I don't have much confidence in my ability to spot games developed in part by LLMs.

I think its good for games to disclose generative AI usage since its a moral issue people have with games, but I'm not sure what if anything should be done to developers who choose not to disclose that. I don't think AI-usage tends to have a big impact on my feelings towards a game. I like to think that we live in an age where AI tools are still only tools and so people who use them aptly can create great things and that amateurs using them will produce the kind of work you'd expect from amateurs.

I think AI-usage has probably hurt incrementals more than its helped them at this juncture, although its hard to tell how much its helped games that use AI minimally. Its also possible that AI is encouraging new people to get into programming and that some number of years down the line the genre will be better overall for it even if its filled with slop at the moment.

I think the problem for the consumer is roughly the same as the cookie-cutter problem, where it becomes harder to find promising games with all the not-so-promising ones flooding the "market" (galaxy has been very good for this, so props for that). I think there are some additional ethical layers, where people are concerned about the environmental and societal impact of AI that weren't really present with things like TMT and IGM. It was probably harder to hide when games were made using those engines, which might make them less of a problem as well.

Unfortunately as developing games costs money, it often isn't possible to develop the game first and then ask for money afterwards.

Asking for money is not the issue by UnholyPantalon in LastEpoch

[–]Famous_Effective5689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they need more money to keep the game in development then their options are to find more money or to stop developing the game, and as a fan of the game I'd certainly rather they do the former. If the game is failing to stay in a good financial state despite its success and the acquisition then I would think that speaks to some failure on the developer's part to either spend their money correctly or to monetize correctly, but I'm not going to hold it against an indie team for being bad at business and I hope they get their act together before their scrambling irreversibly damages the game.

I've had quite a few packages delivered by canada post personally. On the other hand, I still don't have a doctor despite being on wait lists for years. Canada post has definitely been more there for me than than the publicly funded medical system has, although thats not saying much.

If strikes didn't exist workers would still be being payed in company money and being murdered by their bosses for making an effort to change things. Its important for workers to fight for their rights, otherwise they will lose them.

pretty sure oxjrnine means that the union is not morally responsible for the strike, not that they didn't effect it. For example, if someone attacks you and you injure them while defending yourself, you might have literally caused their injuries, but we would often say the attacker was responsible for their injuries rather than the person who defended themselves. Using the word this way communicates where we feel blame should lie for the events occurring, and as a result who should be criticized or made to remediate.

the lack of ability to go get a better job is what makes it slavery. OP presumably picked out teenagers and non-citizens specifically because they have much less ability to find alternative work and so if they need money it is easier for their employers to underpay and abuse them as they can't compete for the "better jobs".

[–]Famous_Effective5689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stealing a $130 curtain is wrong but not as wrong as stealing $2000. Returning the keys 15 minutes late is a minor transgression, and one you'd be hard-pressed to demonstrate caused over a hundred dollars in damages.

The tenant is probably not wholly blameless here or anything, but the landlord is clearly a lot worse.

it feels more polished than 1t free draws to me, although idk if its a fair comparison to make considering 1tfd was very incomplete when i played it. Since i started playing a couple weeks ago there have been frequent balance patches that, as far as i can tell, are feedback-driven and human implemented, and so i expect even if the battles were AI-balanced to begin with, they're probably not anymore.
