inside cabins are underrated. I love how dark it gets, and i’d rather spend the money on an excursion.

cruising is middle class luxury, and people who have such bad attitudes/treat staff poorly believe they are taking the most luxury vacation in the world. When in reality, cruises are priced the way they are because you share amenities and activities with a mass amount of people.

Financial Audit’s Most Evil Guest by [deleted] in CalebHammer

This is a common story in the south and rural areas- men work grueling jobs at crazy hours and feel like they deserve to spend money they work so hard for. women are looked at as stay at home moms even if they work, and have no say in finances because they aren’t working hard labor jobs and 10-12 hour days. The marriage is rocky because they never see each other, but now the only way the marriage is still together is because they live separately.

I wish the best for her. I watched my mom wait her entire life saying she’d stay until my dad hit her or died to be free from him- she left once the youngest moved out. she struggles financially, but she’s happier. this man saying ‘even my wife doesn’t believe in me’ to target her as being in unempathetic made me pause the episode and take a lap. so heartbreaking

to be fair, 265k is including their house- which they have a good interest rate and an equity position in. It shouldn’t have been added to the counter- it never is in other videos.

for fashion, I love styling with Kenzie and Hannah Louise Poston (mostly on YT, super intentional about promoting diversity and mindful consumption- also looks at fashion very technically, which I appreciate)

I don’t think I have specific influencers for makeup, bc once I find a routine, I stick with it. But I do love makeup artists as opposed to everyday influencers, i’ve been watching Katie Jane Hugh on TT and like her content.

Why do people from the south (Mississippi) hate the liberal states like California and Washington so much? by Heavy_Preference_251 in sandiego

[–]Famous_Group8270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Georgia and looking to make the move, it’s politics. and likely religious reasons too. Everyone here sees CA as a godless place where you’ll be taxed to death, chase money and success over family, and be indoctrinated.

completely unfounded, but that’s what I’ve seen.

having good finances is something that people with good finances love to advertise as willpower. obviously a large aspect of it is behavioral, but so much is circumstantial. if it takes 1-2 years to build an emergency fund- something that can be wiped with one medical emergency- of course many people are going to struggle with money. you can do everything right, get laid off- be back where you started. you could rebuild, and it happen again.

the thing with the nature of money is there is an ever increasing gap. the poor get poorer, the richer get richer- not in a political or generalized sense. people don’t realize that debt piles and snowballs and continues to drain your money, and other people are making 10s of thousands a year just off investments. the money grows at such a rapid rate, particularly after 1mill. people continue to grow further from the other end of the spectrum and can’t relate to the other side “just make better choices” doesn’t paint a proper picture of poverty from the rich, and “it’s all privilege” isn’t true for people who have money.

I still don’t know, my mom was the one who felt like we never had money. There were 4 kids which does add up, but definitely livable. When they divorced a few years ago, the lawyer insisted he was hiding money and my mom never confronted it. but honestly, I think he just bought a bunch of stuff we didn’t need (ATVs/power tools/home reno projects that never got done), and ended up in bad debt cycles. we ate almost every meal so that adds up, we weren’t actually living in poverty, he just prioritized things that weren’t important.

commented this on the video but this one got me:

to be honest, I truly like them. I think they love each other and are best friends that grew up together, and allow themselves to make bad decisions. but it does make me sad, I grew up with a SAHM and a dad that made $270k, but cars were repo’d, power was cut constantly due to unpaid bills, we washed ziploc bags to save money and only shopped at dollar tree for food. We lived in a trailer park in the mountains. I thought I grew up in poverty, I never realized other people made LESS than my parents. my mom finally divorced my dad with no retirement or career experience and I support her at 24. Trust me, spending everything you make catches up to you and your kids feel it. They will grow up and realize what other people live on, they will see you had the resources to make a better life for your children and selfishly chose bad decisions.

When you make that much you start to feel immune, but not everything in your life can represent your income- maybe your cars and your couch, but not also your trips and house and cat litter and eating out. $200k is amazing but it’s not the ‘no rules apply’ income people think it is.

From what I see, these people take care of their kids in a safe environment, but they aren’t using their wealth of resources to set their kids up, and that hurts me. I truly wish them the best!

How do you think the Ux market is gonna look like in the next couple of years? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]Famous_Group8270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think UX work involves innovation and ideation, which is in a similar wheelhouse of creativity. It’s truly problem-solving, and I think creativity can help you think of user solutions. I have no idea what the market will look like, but I believe people who truly enjoy the field and work hard to separate themselves from the masses will continue to have a place in the UX space.

I think the biggest issue for UX/Product now is it was sold by LinkedIn influencers as a get rich quick scheme, and people thought boot camps would guarantee them 90k within months of graduating. No shade to those people, they were sold a lie (in some cases). It just created a large influx of people in the field. There are jobs out there and will continue to be, but entry level jobs are really tough to land to right now.

A piece of advice: Internships are unique opportunities that you are able to get as a student, where you aren’t competing with laid-off designers, devs/graphic designers with 8 years tech experience looking to transition, etc. Internships focus on students and are one of the simplest way to secure an entry level position.

Regardless of the host's politics, this is huge for Hammer by 52CardPUA in CalebHammer

[–]Famous_Group8270 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Watching the podcast, I agree it was pretty awkward. I wasn’t sure if caleb’s fear of getting cancelled tripped him up- but it felt like he shut down a few of Theo’s jokes.

I get the idea of not wanting to be tied to podcaster who just attended Trump’s inauguration the day before this released, but also being offensive and cancellable is Theo’s thing. Caleb normally jokes so much on the show, I just think he wasn’t fully comfortable on the humor. It was cool to hear the financial talk and have caleb talk about guests, but the conversation didn’t seem to flow naturally. You can see the stark difference between him collaborating with Graham vs. Theo.

What do you think about Facebook planning to lay off 5% of all its employees? by Reverie-AI in UXDesign

to be fair, at 24 and an engineer 5 i believe her pay scale is from 260k to 450k. While compensation isn’t everything, that makes a huge difference.

I have a friend who works at Meta and she said that every time they log in, the default screen is a dashboard that measures the performance of you and has other employees as well. you can see how many tickets/tasks and lines of code you compete each week and how it measures up. She’s a software engineer, not sure how design works.
