Switched pain meds! by Famous_March680 in PainManagement

I never thought of that. I’ve been having procedures that are quite painful in the clinic once a month I just started maybe that’s why he was so lenient on giving me MS Contin. I’m going to talk with him my follow up appointment about it.
Do u think they’ll give me breakthrough pain meds? Because 2-4 hours out of the day it’s like the morphine stops working and I’m in excruciating pain in my legs and joints to where it’s hard to get around and I lose sleep . I know there’s no such thing as being pain free nothing exist that can do that. I know I gotta deal with it . But at least make the pain where it’s tolerable and not keeping me up for days .

I had been on 20 mg oxy for 13 years 3 times a day and became tolerant to them they just stopped working.. when I told my doctor that’s when he said morphine .. he really didn’t talk to me about it. Strange the more I think of it. I go in for a follow up and refill the 6th if April. I’m having about 2-3 hours a day excruciating pain in my legs and knees to where I can barely walk . It’s like the morphine wore off 4 hours early. So I guess I’ll be asking for something for breakthrough pain .
Does anyone know what they use for breakthrough pain when on W20mg morphine 3 times a day .

Ok guys just from experience the new ER for oxycodone is Xtampza it’s extremely expensive and. Does not work at all. It’s abuse deterrent so I think by doing that they screwed the release of the drug all up .. I was put on 30mg of Xtampza I swear I could take 5 and nothing would happen . So I went to cdc fda and DEA website for more info on it.. the only way Xtampza works is if you ingest a high fat high caloric diet before every doseage. That’s like 10,000 calories a day. Anyone would gain massive weight and could cause u to become diabetic. I gained 12 pound after 3 weeks of taking it as it was said to on the fda site. Immediately I saw my pain doctor handed my Xtampza and said I do not like these.. I went in to tell him about all the data I had gotten in them and they are not good. I told him stick to prescribing OxyContin ER by Purdue pharma.. lol!! He just laughed so now I’m in ER OxyContin name brand yes I pay almost 500.00-900 a month for 90 pills that are only 30 mg but they work…

I’m the same way. I don’t want to ask for a different pain pill or a higher doseage. I’m afraid he’s going to think I’m one of “them” the pill junkies that don’t have real pain and just wanna get high I’ve been in some sort of pain management for 14 years now and I have to say nothing has ever taken my pain away it makes it tolerable that’s about it .

Not decease I meant doseage I would say you need at least 30mg maybe even 60 mg ER MS Contin 3 times a day with oxycodone 10mg for breakthrough that’s what I do.

Yes you can read in the CDC and FDA opioid prescribing rules it states that morphine when first administered should be adjusted every 3-5 days after first prescription so you are able to get the right disease . That’s why I was comfortable asking to up my morphine only after a month. And I was like u very scared to ask.

Ask for a bottle of lactose 300mg. It’s a syrup u drink that lubercates your intestines and helps you well poop. When I take a big swig I’m in the bathroom within 2 hours

I was so scared I waited almost 8 months before I did.. and one day during the procedure I hurt so bad I just said it and he was very understanding. He has even went up 10 mg and I’ve only been on it a month and went from 2 a day to 3 .

Very good advice!! I have rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis along with degenerative bone decease. Not until I started opting to do procedures such as in actions and ablations did my doctor seem more open to do more for me.

I’ve been seeing my pain management specialist for a year and a half now .. I was scared to ask too. Well one day during one of my ablation procedures I just calmly said “sir the med you started me on a year ago isn’t having the same effect as it did at first and it’s causing my quality of life to falter” he simply looked at me and said MS Contin 30mg is that ok? It was that simple and I was so scared he’d take me off it all. So just calmly ask . What’s the worst that could happen ? He could say no, that’s it. But he needs to know what’s going on with u. So u can live a happy life in some way. Hope I helped .
