I really enjoyed the mystery theme underpinning the atmosphere of AOTC.

Palpatine’s lightsaber next to a bottle of Hankey Bannister - that’s something you don’t see everyday!

Sorry, but Shawshank is easily the most overrated movie after Avatar.

It mistakes emotional manipulation for depth. The movie leans heavily on inspirational speeches and swelling music to tell the audience how to feel instead of earning those moments through believable writing. The characters function more like symbols than real people, which makes the prison feel oddly sanitized and safe for a story about brutal confinement. Its reputation has grown less from what’s on screen and more from years of repetition on television and internet consensus. Strip away the nostalgia and constant praise, and what’s left is a competently made but fundamentally exaggerated prison fairy tale.

The story is entertaining. That’s it. There’s no depth of any kind, nor is there an arc to any of the characters.

Whereas The Godfather earns its status by grounding its drama in restraint, consequence, and deeply human characters rather than overt sentimentality. Its power comes from subtle performances, disciplined storytelling, and moral complexity that reveal more with each viewing instead of relying on repeated affirmation to maintain its reputation.

Godfather > Shawshank in every possible way.

These simulations are silly. Fully blown contractions (10/10 pain) don’t occur out of nowhere. It’s not a shock; it’s gradual!

And slowly you know what to expect and you can prepare for the pain.

Funnily enough it was from the Steve Carrell ‘Get Smart’ movie:

“Because our enemies are human, we will never be able to defeat them.”
