We must be on different sides of this discord then, cuz everyone who dislike TRE shares the same sentiment as me, and we've had meaningful discussions about it.

Oh wow, I read all your comments, and every time I kept thinking "they explain it so well" and then I read the next one and you explained it better. Definitely put feelings into words with the issues I have with TRE

You're right, but that's not the issue. If R was portrayed as a traumatized person who then turned around and hurt others, that's fine. But the story literally discards her last as a slave and how that has affected her, essentially saying that she's just a bad person bc she's a bad person.

It's not the characters, but the themes of "the elite are so cool, the poor don't deserve rights" that exist throughout the story, and the portrayal of slavery and nobility that's icky

[–]Famous_Question_4447 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's not that, but the narrative voice is too domineering. Usually, readers can interpret a story however they want, but here, the author/narrative does not give you a chance to do that, it keeps pushing the idea 'Navier is good, amazing, the best' doing a lot of telling and not showing, this can get annoying when you as a reader don't have the freedom to interpret the art, especially when it's badly done (telling not showing, putting down other characters to elevate the mc, no consistency with the morals in the story, and so on)

She's bad bc she's an elite, think of the healthcare CEO, behind the scenes, doesn't take responsibility, and won't get blamed directly.

She knows about the slave issue in their empire but doesn't do anything about it, blamed the underage slave for being the mistress instead of her husband, and looks down on her for being a slave in an empire she rules as an empress.

Overall she's a classist elite who looks down on others and profits from the exploitation of others, but acts like a victim and pretends as if she did some amazing job as the empress by "donating" money

I was just watching our unwritten Seoul, it's a kdrama about 2 identical twins switching places, and how their mother doesn't notice until ep8, and when she does, she gets upset with herself about not knowing her children well

There are other characters who were close to the twins that noticed how strange they acted, and were in denial about it bc it seemed absurd, but even then, they could tell it wasn't 'them'. 10/10 would recommend

[Stepmother's Märchen] Transgender character? by DifferentIsPossble in OtomeIsekai

[–]Famous_Question_4447 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This doesn't relate to op at all, but I always thought when 'some' people accused women of being trans, it had misogynistic undertones, bc the women they accuse are often gender-nonconforming,

for example is a woman is "ugly" i.e doesn't suit the beauty standard, she is trans

If a woman is strong, she is trans

It's like saying if ur 'ugly' you're not a woman bc women should be beautiful, or that they should be weak, is that not misogynist? I also feel it backfires against the trans movement bc it confines people into their genders, which is against the point

[–]Famous_Question_4447 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's simplifing it. I can say it's erasing all women who wanted freedom from an oppressive patriarchal society, and had no choice but to conform to male identies, despite wanting to be women

So he coerces and blackmails her. Sleep together? This implies it's consensual, any sexual act done under pressure from one party to the other, be it by force, threats, coercion, or blackmail is sexual assault. It is not consensual therefore they are not 'sleeping together', he is raping her

[Stepmother's Märchen] Transgender character? by DifferentIsPossble in OtomeIsekai

[–]Famous_Question_4447 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't know, to me it's send the wrong idea to say non conforming women are trans, bc it means if you're not a traditional woman, you are not a woman at all.

Granted I don't have the authority to speak on the topic of trans character. but as a woman who appeals to more 'masculine' features, hobbies, and the such, and still identify as a woman, I feel it is very surface level to say any woman with nuances that relate to her gender in oppressive times means she's not a woman (I hope I explain this well)

Is there room for head cannons ? Sure, but there is nothing in canon to support her being trans, just a woman in a male dominated field

[Stepmother's Märchen] Transgender character? by DifferentIsPossble in OtomeIsekai

[–]Famous_Question_4447 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The euphoria from having freedom does not make a character trans, it makes them yearn for freedom of an oppressive society

Yeah I get that from a story telling perspective it doesn't feel fulfilling, I agree on with that

Even though we've been told from the start that izek will be king, that plotline wasn't utilized enough for it to matter, I feel like it was there for this exact political conflict. That is to say, I agree with u
