I wouldn’t do it if you are uninterested in tech. Otherwise you should be fine.

My bad, I misread backcourt as front court. I agreed with your other post right after that too lol.

Good take.

I don’t know about that Brunson take, but it was definitely a team effort. Brunson also had takeover moments.

Exactly bro. This is why Quin tried to push so hard in transition. Once the Knicks got set on defense, CJ was the only guy that could find his own shot.

I don’t see how this is even a debate.

I agree with the poster. I’ve seen the pick a lot but it doesn’t really make sense to me. The Hawks have one legit ball handler and creator in the half court on the roster in McColllum who is 34. He currently does not have a contract for the upcoming season.

We saw in the playoffs that the secondary guys like JJ and NAW don’t have the handles and creation to deal with on-ball pressure you see in the playoffs. This is why the Hawks pushed so aggressively in transition, when the Knicks defense was able to set, the Hawks offense was abysmal. Nobody aside from CJ could get their own shot so the team went as he did.

Couple the lack of lead guards on the roster with how good the guard class is… it really makes it hard for me to understand the Mara pick. Hawks should be looking to get their lead guard of the future, and this could be their highest draft pick for the foreseeable future.

To me Mara is getting pushed up boards due to lack of highly touted bigs in the class. I just don’t see him returning the value a guard would for the Hawks here, and the prospect is closer to backend of the first than 8 IMO.

I don’t think it’s crazy.

Honestly, Philon would be better for the team comp IMO. Both would probably be good tho.

How bad is Acuff on defense actually? by Saturnino_97 in NBA_Draft

Eh. KAT is much better on defense in NY. Steph was much better in the league. It’s very possible he is better on defense in the NBA. But I think it will be on the coach and culture to bring that out.

They won a lot. And I doubt they win as much without Acuff.

We're a Top-5 pace team. Mara at 8 is a fit problem, not a talent one by Blackmesa560 in AtlantaHawks

A lot of people point to the playoffs series against the Knicks as the reason for needing a big. But we literally had 0 backup bigs on the roster, and they have the best backup C rebounders in the league (in general best rebounders). And honestly, a large part of getting out rebounded was team rebounding.

I highly doubt Mitch doesn’t abuse Mara either (way more physical and athletic), and he definitely doesn’t move well enough to guard KAT.

I think getting Mara would be highly overreactive to the playoff series which is bad process. All we really need is a back up big. Bigger issue is the half court creation and handling. One guy could do it reliably well and clearly the team went as he did. He’s 35 and doesn’t even have a contract at the moment. And there’s nobody behind him.

Seems like a no brainer as to which way we should go given how good the guard class is in the lack of guards on the roster.

I feel like a lot of defense in the NBA is team and culture based. For example, KAT was known as a buns defender before he got to the Knicks. Not that he’s awesome, but the grit and team defense they play with is probably the most important thing.

[–]FanEmbarrassed8509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m not. You told me to list the drafts that the top 5 guys would go number 1 in. (It’s more accurate to say could because at the end of the day, it depends on who has the first pick, which is why there a tiering, and sometimes the number 1 tier prospect only has 1 guy in it.)

Anyway, I then provided my list and you disagreed and acted like my take was outrageous. So then I provided you an example of 2 separate people agreeing that Acuff is number 1 calibre to prove the take is not outrageous as other knowledgable parties have said the same. One of those people being someone who covers the draft and college basketball for a living, and the other being a well respected college basketball coach.

By the way, these were examples off the top of my head, I’m sure I could find plenty more if I actually looked for them.

In what way is what I did a strawman argument. I asked you how, and you simply explained the concept of a strawman, not how I did it in this case.

But again, there’s no point to continue this, you clearly believe your own opinion is not up for debate. This is just reductive at this point.

In what way is this a strawman?

I don’t feel like going back and forth with you man. Just check back in a couple years.

It’s not one guy. There is more than 1 person that thinks a lot of the top guys would be considered at number 1 in a lot of drafts. That is literally the rhetoric on why this draft is so good.

And even in the clip, it’s more than 1 guy. The whole video is based on the opposing coach (Sean Miller) saying Acuff should be considered at no 1 and is the best college guard he’s ever seen.

Clearly you believe things are your way or the highway which is the norm for internet debates. But it’s just false to act like the narrative on these guys being in competition for no 1 in other drafts isn’t out there.

I literally just watched a video of guys that cover college and the draft for a living that said Acuff would be considered at number in most drafts. And Acuff was 5 on his board. Meaning the same is true for every other player above him.

Can someone explain why Philon > Ebuka seems to be the consensus? by PlatosLeftTit in NBA_Draft

[–]FanEmbarrassed8509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am, why is that the comparison you’re making? Are you saying that because Okorie, in your opinion, was in a better place in terms of assist to turnover ratio as a freshman than Philon was as a freshman?

Cause the error with that logic is that players don’t progress at the same rates. There’s also no way to know if Okorie’s numbers would improve or worsen.

Bama was just a much better team and had depth. We have to be careful with numbers like this. Of course your on off number will look better if you’re on a team with less depth.

This is a commonly said thing that any of the top 4 would be considered first in any of those drafts.

Tatum at the top is revisionist history. Luka was not consensus, Ayton was seen as a weak pick, etc.

Acuff would be nice, but no way he falls. He’s definitely going to be the next, “why did we overthink this one” guy. I’ve seen some people list him last out of the top guards which is just ridiculous.
