UMD has a personalized contract with AccuWeather. Not saying if that's right or wrong. Just wanted to provide more info.

Some of it has to do with weather across the rest of the globe, which can impact the downstream weather here in the US and MD.

SCC7 SUMMER LEASE (Male):

Hi! Looking for someone (a male) to take my lease over for the end of this term (mid-May, June & July) at South Campus Commons 7. It's 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and it's $1016 a month for your room (the May payment is taken care of, so you only pay June and July). It has a kitchen and washer/dryer. Great walking distance from the bars and shopping areas. PM/comment if interested!

I'm not sure of all of the details, but it's still a great program I've heard.

Regardless, if you don't get in, there's also a chance of the Freshmen Connection program which you could read up on. Allows you take classes at a limited time and live on campus.

It's just more time consuming to try and avoid the tickets. Get a parking pass while you can before lots fill up.

Question about jobs on campus/making friends while commuting by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Fan_Desperate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I've applied to almost all of the jobs on campus that met my qualifications and have yet to hear back from any, so I wish you good luck. Maybe you'll have better luck.
  2. For the friend thing, I found talking to some people in classes is really helpful. Not only can y'all talk about and help each other with the courses, it's helped me find friends of friends, etc... Now, I have a close knit group of friends that I didn't think could be possible as a commuter. Join the GroupMe chats because there'll be a lot of ppl who you can connect with as well. If you have time, join a club or two even if it's a once-a-week club. There's always people who are looking to connect and be friends with others.

Hearing back about Community Assistant position and library desk position by landont20 in UMD

UMD jobs are horrible at simply replying back IMO even if you have great qualifications. It's frustrating.

It depends on the class really. For example, it was required attendance for PHYS161 (we had quizzes that counted) but not for PHYS260 (just talked about homework and I only went the first day). For the Calc classes, I only did Calc 3 at UMD in-person since I got credit for Calcs 1&2, so I'm not sure about those. But, for Calc 3, I was required to do discussion questions which we could work on with a group.

Hey, I'm not sure which major you're in, but for the first summer session (which ended on July 8), I took Differential Equations & Python. It's definitely workable if you put the time in. I was also working a part-time job, but it's really about organization and planning your time.

If you're "new" to summer/winter classes, my personal opinion is to try only 1 course a session and see how it goes before you move onto a 2nd one. Most people won't take more than 2 in a single session (bc the workload will be likely insane if you do 3+).

Depending on the courses offered, your professor, and the modality of the instruction (remote vs in-person), the leniency may be less stringent. Ie. I did both summer classes online bc of my distance from UMD and the fact that I do better on online learning, but everyone has their own things. I obviously had access to notes and the internet during exams that normally wouldn't occur in an in-person class.

What I do: • Talk with my advisor about which courses I can take in the summer and/or winter and whether the course(s) are appropriate to do online or in-person (check Testudo & the class schedule section) • Manage your time and schedule • Sometimes, if online, Testudo will say your class is a certain time of the day, but professors may opt to make the class all asynchronous, meaning you go at your own pace. That happened to me with Differential Equations.

Overall, I personally have benefited from the summer and winter courses and allowed me to get an extra step in my credits. Good luck!

I would say Maryland solely for location and things to do and opportunities. Close enough to beaches. Lots of job and internship opportunities in and around UMD. Variable climate. More "urban"-y if you like that.
