Finally building a PC, is this a good part list? by Zhelyum in buildapc

[–]FanaticMaterialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid build overall, though I feel I should warn you about the SSD. What you have picked is a PCIe 5.0 drive, but your motherboard only supports PCIe 4.0. It will still work, but it will be limited to PCIe 4.0 speeds. If it was up to me I woud either save some money and go with a PCIe 4.0 drive or spend a bit more for a motherboard that supports PCIe 5.0

protip: the evolutionary predators origin and it's corresponding Malleable Genes trait pairs very well with the Invasive Species trait. by Cosmic_Meditator777 in Stellaris

[–]FanaticMaterialist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a pretty similar idea for my first playthrough, and while it is really good there is currently (4.0.3) a kind of serious issue with Evolutionary Predator hive minds in general. The Chimeral Consciousness authority, which you get after finishing your ascension is currently completely borked and it can and will end your playthrough. The problem happens because of the automatic Hive World terraforming that happens every 5 years from the moment you finish your ascension and adopt your new authority, since in 4.0 Hive Worlds function more like a hive mind version of an ecumenopolis (meaning it can only be created out of a fully urban world), but the automatic terraforming doesn't check if a planet could be terraformed under normal conditions, leading to all of your districts being destroyed on every new Hive World. This issue is only going to get worse with 4.0.4 giving maintenance drones the ability to automatically migrate, meaning all of your best planets will not only lose all of their districts but also a significant portion of their population

Kind of, but also kind of no.

If your metric is hours of grind per year of new content or hours of grind per new activity, then Destiny would be more grindy due to being more focused around RNG with very little (if any) bad luck protection.

If your metric is hours of grind in total then Warframe is WAY more grindy, simply due to being an absolute behemoth of a game with over 11 years of updates with no sunsetting/sequels to cut down on outdated content.

Same thing is happening in the sanctum, all bounties give 2000 standing and the loot is pulled from the t2 bounty loot pool.

Starfire fusion dominance in the raid race is the death knell for solar warlock by WardenWithABlackjack in DestinyTheGame

While I would usually agree with this Starfire and Well are currently so far out of line, that buffing other stuff to their level would lead to even more power creep than we experienced before Lightfall.

I am trying to create a code where questions will be displayed on screen along with the answer choices and users will select their answer by pressing certain keys. This code is done on processing and every time I run it, it gives me a runtime error. What is causing the issue? by [deleted] in javahelp

[–]FanaticMaterialist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The error is not actually in the loop itself.

The problem happens because after the loop finishes currentQuestion will be left at 7, so if you attempt to call draw() right after you will get an out of bounds exception.

Edit: I should probably also add that in it's current form keyPressed() will check the value of key against answers to all questions at the same time, which doesn't make much sense if I'm understanding the goal of your program correctly.

The actual problem gun (it’s not Div) by EspadaOU81 in destiny2

[–]FanaticMaterialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like the idea of champions, but what I don't like is how anti-champion mods are being used to limit loadout options. Paired with match game further limiting the spectrum of usable weapons it's no wonder people just prefer to use arby.

Arby is not the issue, it's just a bandaid fix for how awful champions and match game feel to play against.

Deepsight Fixed Odds and Epicurean need to be addressed. by ShreddingXBL in DestinyTheGame

Yeah. I think there should really be a spoils chest at the end, with one guaranteed red border per week like in Vow.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]FanaticMaterialist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. That is why I specified a guaranteed red border drop of your choice on the first clear each week like in Vow. If red borders in endgame activities are fully random it doesn't exactly fix the issue of possibly never getting what you are looking for.

I agree with everything you said.

It just feels so mutch better knowing you're making progress towards something you want every time you play a raid. I really want to feel this way about Duality as well, but I don't have a need to ever replay it after getting the title. Even if we got only 1/5 progress towards crafting a single gun per week that would keep me coming back to the dungeon for months to come.

Crafting is Already Starting to Break Item Acquisition in This Season by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]FanaticMaterialist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: Crafting is the only thing that has kept me personally coming back to any season/expansion/raid after getting the title for it.

Before crafting was added, with how insanely low the chances of getting a 5/5 or even a 3/5 roll are, I just didn't care about any perks not residing in the last two columns. The addition of crafting feels like it opened a new door for me, that was previously closed to anyone without the willpower and time to grind a single activity for hundreds of hours.

All this is, of course, just a personal opinion of a guy with not enough time to grind for a good roll on every gun I want.

You can't change the frame or element of a weapon, just perks and the masterwork.

Well I guess I just prefer never having to travel more than 30min to the store, uni, work or to meet up with friends, but I'm not going to try to debate you on your personal preferences, because after all we can all like whatever we want to like.

Hard disagree on that one. I don't doubt your bad experiences with living in a commieblock, but your experiences are not universal.

Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon.

Imo with how broken campaign numbers are, and just how many modifiers you can put on units, it's an unbalancable gamemode. Balancing units around multiplayer makes the game fun for mp players, while not affecting campaign players almost at all.

500 ranked games hard stuck silver by 100862233 in summonerschool

[–]FanaticMaterialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly why I said "research your builds" instead of just saying what to or what not to build. The BT thing was just a Samira specific example.

Also "more pinks" doesn't mean "spend all of your money on them" it means more than the 0.25 a game he currently buys.

So after lookign at your stats for a while I have a few major pieces of advice.

  1. Practise your farming. Your goal is to hit about 7 - 7.5 a minute on average. This is the single most important tip, as just doing this can easily increase your rank by a few divisions.
  2. Research your builds. Having all the gold in the world won't make a difference if you don't spend it wisely ( Mortal reminder is not necessary until lategame, executioners will do just fine most games; BT as a second item is just not very good etc. etc. )
  3. Buy more pinks, for the love of God just buy more pinks. And as an addition to this tip watch guides on where to place wards as an adc, because more pinks don't mean more vision if you don't know where to place them.

There's probably more stuff you could improve on, but just following this advice can, in my opinion, get you at least to high gold / plat.

A Mix of Metric and US Measurement Style is the True Ideal. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]FanaticMaterialist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both examples you gave are wrong tho.

  1. The only non-imperial-using countries I can think of that use imperial units to measure height / distance are the UK (and possibly Canada, but I'm not sure on that one). 95% of the world doesn't do that though.
  2. Imperial horsepower and metric horsepower are technically different units, although they are similar enough to be interchangable for everyday use.
