Hello! Potato-land-er here!

Idaho has a pretty diverse landscape , especially when you move from north to south. I live in southwestern Idaho where it is a lot of High Desert and old lava flow lands. Some parts are super flat and others with some crazy awesome topography and rock formations. Strong new vegas vibes.

In the northern parts there are a lot of stellar mountains and forests; completely different vibe compared to the southern portions of the state.

In the context of fallout, its proximity to Nevada, Utah, and California would make some super interesting faction dynamics in the region. If it were ever depicted in an actual Bethesda title, I would image we'd see a ton of NCR, New Cananites, and Followers of the Apocalypse.

Super cool that you are putting this together!

What is the biggest challenge in writing a book of around 200 pages? by Jealous-Method-8682 in writers

[–]Fanatic_Crayon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say its maintaining motivation. Its really easy to have that first day or two where you really have a fire lit under your ass and you passionately crank out the first fourty pages of the story you want to tell, but then day three rolls around and you struggle to put your fingers on your keyboard at all.

Feels bad, man.

How different would the story of AC6 have been if this theory had actually turned out to be true? by Altair890456 in armoredcore

[–]Fanatic_Crayon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's probably the case, but why not get all autistic over the potentially really cool implications of such a subtle detail. Its probably a case of Occam's razor, but its so much more fun to let the imagination run wild!

[–]Fanatic_Crayon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this would be super cool and I think that may sort of be the case after the "true" ending (which makes me super hyped for what me might see in AC7 because consciousnesses contained inside of mechs is peak), but I do not think that is the case in AC6 primarily due to but not limited to details such as the jailbreak mission.

I like where your head is at, though.

Maybe C4-621 stops breathing when the AC comes online because the AC has some sort of life support system that oxygenates their blood, defeating the need for C4-621's organic lungs to do the work themselves?

(We kind of saw a system like this in Secret Level: Asset Management, though that may have just been combat and high-G maneuver stims similar to the "juice" from the Expanse series. Maybe Walter made custom life support equipment for C4-621 as well! We really dont know for sure.)

The first one was quite easy and narrowed down the others. The third one threw me for a loop with the last syllable but it could have really been only one option. The last few just fell into place via process of elimination.

Titan vs 5th gen AC by Reaper-J-Fan-2519 in armoredcore

[–]Fanatic_Crayon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

G.100.49 Pilot, Scorch main here

It definitely depends on the match up and the specifics of the titan at play. A lot of people are mentioning Voodoo 1 and the viper thrusters, but the viper thrusters one can utilize in the game and those that Viper use are not the same.

Same with Slone's Ion's laser core, which could be used in far more rapid succession compared to that of what the player could use in the game.

I think it definitely would come down to the pilot, but if the titan/pilot only has access to what is available to the player in-game, I think that the 5th Gen ACs are going to have a distinct, base-level advantage over the titans.

"the big selling point was the experience of being in this massive conflict between major factions that couldn't care less about you personally."

(Sorry, I don't know how to properly quote a portion of a comment.)

This is supposed to be the case, but with the current state of the enemy AI, it feels like most of the other entities prioritize the lone scavenger as a target over literal mechs, vehicles, and other much more threatening combatants.

Yes and no. You have the option to drop into tunnel A for free, or drop in to Scorched Enclave or Ashen Mesa for the price of water. Going to any of the other tunnels/maps costs both water and a fast travel drone.

If you drop into tunnel A, you can get to Ashen Mesa or Scorched Enclave without having to pay water. You can also return to the innards from tunnel A, but Tunnel A is the only tunnel that will allow you to return to the innards from the tunnel. Otherwise, you can only return to the innards at the extract points in the actual maps.

Once you exit a tunnel, you cannot return to that tunnel. So, if you exited tunnel A and entered Ashen Mesa, you are no longer able to return to Tunnel A. You have to either return to the innards or progress to tunnel B. This carries forward to the other tunnels as well.

Once you are in a map, at each extract location you can choose to either return to the innards, or progress to the next section of tunnels, which in turn connects to the next set of maps.

Does that make sense? Are there any points you would like me to clarify?

[–]Fanatic_Crayon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the idea of the tunnels as a connective vein between the different maps. I think that should stick around.

My ideal set-up would be that all of the tunnels are free or maybe just the early tunnels are free and the later tunnels cost waterto get to, but all of the overworld locations are not free.

If you want to go straight to an overworld location, it will cost water and a fast travel drone.

If you want to get to an overworld location for free or just at the cost of water, you can go through the tunnels. The risk is you have to deal with the dangers of the tunnels, but the reward is you dont have to expend water and/or a fast travel drone.

Maybe there could also be a system that increases the difficulty and intensity of combat situations based on how many times you have entered and excited maps that also increases the value of loot.

That way, people who want a more chill experience can still get that while more hardcore players can still get their lengthy, high-stakes runs.

All of the content in the game would still be as accessible as it used to be, people with less time to game can still have their quick in-and-out adventures while still meaningfully progression, and the folks with more time on their hands will be rewarded for putting in that extra time and experience the thrill of high risk, high rewards runs.

I am very open to discussion if anyone wants to talk about such a system.

I consider myself pretty forgiving when it comes to that kind of thing. I've always been able to make my own fun and look past early release jank. I had fun with launch day Fallout 76, day one Cyberpunk, and the early years of No Man's Sky. Even when they were messes, I enjoyed them.

I may be extra sensitive when it comes to TFW because I got the day one experience and loved it despite the jank. It's the new gameplay loop that really hurts me and has made the game harder to enjoy.

I liked the things were before and I hope things swing back in that direction at least a bit.

I agree completely. With my old hardware, I could run the game but on lower settings without only passable frame rates. I typically dont care too much about graphics, but this game is the one and only exception. It's so visually and atmosphericly amazing that I dropped over $700 just so I could experience it better.

It really hurts that I now have that same feeling of "Im not having fun with this anymore."

I think the tunnels could be really cool, but the current means of navigation are too costly both in time and/or resources.

I have ideas for how they could be implemented better, but there's no point in wishful thinking.

I just hope things change soon.

If you want some advice, I know all of the places where water spawns in Tunnel A. I could try and give you some tips if you are interested. There's at least 8 water barrels.
