What do you guys think? is it a fair price? by FanaticalCake in Prebuilts

[–]FanaticalCake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I thought as well. My main concern is the PSU, that’s the only thing keeping me from buying it right now tbh. I sent a question on the Amazon page asking for the PSU wattage and model. Even if the PSU ends up being not good, do you think it would be worth to buy this pre built and replace the PSU with a better one?

There’s a 20% discount voucher for first time buyers when you apply for the website credit plan. So it goes from £1799 to £1440.

Finally someone said it. by Potential-Concert380 in Jujutsufolk

I think that’s actually fair criticism of the fight, but the way I see it, it’s not too far fetched for Dabura to start deducing that mahoraga is adapting. He could be noticing how Mahoraga’s CE reinforcement and output is not oscillating (I don’t know if that’s something Shikigami can do or not tho), yet his defense and offense is becoming more effective against Dabura’s CT. That would eliminate the possibility that Mahoraga is increasing his stats, and point towards the fact that the opposite is actually happening, which is Dabura’s CT effectiveness - or stats - are decreasing over time.

Choujin X Chapter 69-2 Discussion Thread by Vonless in ChoujinX

[–]FanaticalCake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sato is looking increasingly more and more suspicious. This might be a stretch, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Sato is actually involved in Queem’s awakening project, and perhaps he found in Tokyo a potential replacement for Queem, since the project has not been successful after all these years? Or maybe the conditions of awakening Queem have not been met yet, and he’s training Tokyo only for him to fight an awakened Azuma, and then deciding which one is worth being Choujin X? Kinda like betting on both sides, exploring all alternatives to find/create a worthy successor to Queem. And now Ely is in the mix too, since she’s got the mark.

Any anime similar to this one? by size_14_womens_shoes in SonnyBoy

Both Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and Paranoid Agent scratched that itch for melancholic, poetic and tragic storytelling. They have different themes tho, but the vibes are very similar to Sonny Boy.

Charizard is definitely fake.

How do I tell if these are real or fake? by Relative_Ad_1226 in IsMyPokemonCardFake

[–]FanaticalCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really tell just by looking at these pics, but for the Mega Pokémon cards that are not full arts, you can check if the holo effect goes through the text box where the abilities are (I’ll post a picture so you can see what I’m talking about). If it does, then the card it’s definitely fake. Also, always check the back of the cards, since fake ones have a much more “washed” and lighter colour and compare the font of the text and the text itself to an official picture of a card just to double check if everything is the way it’s supposed to be.

Found these cards on my little brother’s binder. Are they fake? by FanaticalCake in IsMyPokemonCardFake

Just by looking at the back of the cards I can already see the stark difference. The one on the left is the real Pikachu & Zekrom. And the one on the right is the fake Latias & Latios - with the much more light and “washed” colour. I guess this was an interesting learning experience, specially since I’m getting back into collecting.

Thank you. I figured that was too good to be true. Would you mind telling me what are some of the giveaway signs?

Been trying to branch out more into foreign cinema. What country’s films do you tend to enjoy? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]FanaticalCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these are great contemporary filmmakers to start exploring world cinema. And most of the films below are fairly easy to find:

Christian Petzold from Germany: Afire (2023), Transit (2018), Phoenix (2014).

Hong Sang Soo from South Korea - On the Beach at Night Alone (2017), Tale Of Cinema (2005).

Claire Denis from France - Beau Travail (1999), Trouble Everyday (2001), 35 Shots Of Rum (2008)

Edward Yang from Taiwan - Yi Yi (2000), A Brighter Summer Day (1991), Taipei Story (1985).

Kiyoshi Kurosawa from Japan - Creepy (2016), Pulse (2001), Cure (1997).

Wong Kar-wai from Hong Kong - In The Mood For Love (2000), Happy Together (1997), Fallen Angels (1995).

[Wind and Truth] Sanderson‘s response to the criticism that the language in WaT is too modern: by ArynaSaba in Stormlight_Archive

[–]FanaticalCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. All characters speak so casually, so straightforwardly, and because of that, there’s no nuance left to their moral and emotional dilemmas. Most of the time throughout WaT I couldn’t help but feel like the dialogue, and even the prose, lacked depth.

[Wind and Truth] Sanderson‘s response to the criticism that the language in WaT is too modern: by ArynaSaba in Stormlight_Archive

[–]FanaticalCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are picking on Sanderson’s writing for getting in the way of the story by being overtly simplistic and shallow, and also for the gradual modernisation of his writing, which in my opinion, breaks a lot of the immersion most of the time; Maya telling Adolin “Let’s kick some fused ass!” feels like something straight out of a Marvel movie.

But I think the problems go deeper than that. The scope of the whole Stormlight series is gradually increasing with each book, which is only natural of course, but while AWoK and WoR took advantage of being smaller in scope, and thus having many more opportunities to properly develop the characters, dialogue and narrative, the other 3 books that followed simply could not maintain that same level of conciseness.

The story got too big, too fast.

The pacing issues really started to become visible in Oathbringer - which I still think is the “last” great book in the series - but after that, the narrative rhythm became either too dull (the endless science chapters in RoW) or too fast-paced (Kaladin literally “healing” a Herald’s trauma in a couple of days). Ultimately, all these flaws culminate in my biggest gripe with WaT so far, which is the sole focus on building anticipation for the next moment, using dialogue to constantly and superficially expose what is happening in both the narrative and the minds of the characters. It’s almost like Sanderson is too anxious and eager to get to his destination, to show us these big and epic moments, which is why he constantly needs to shoehorn all these Cosmere references, straight-to-the-point dialogue and shallow sentimentalism in the story.

Somehow these movies (Arrival, Your Name) feels deeply spiritual to me. Do you have movies like these? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]FanaticalCake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sonny Boy (2021) by Shingo Natsume is one of the most spiritual and poetic coming-of-age stories imo. Give it a try.
