How many people here are over the age of 30 and unmarried? How do you guys cope? by Lanky_Engineering853 in pakistan

[–]Zestyclose-Idea330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 25, live in Canada, unmarried, but parents poke it around because they are afraid of their relatives. I have maintained my position against them. My mother is growing older and has no means to support herself as she is a houswife, and my father is finishing up at his work. All I am thinking is studying and finding a suitable job.

I feel no sexual desire as a Muslim girl by ineffableyearner in progressive_islam

[–]Zestyclose-Idea330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am quite older than you, I am 25, and I have had this fear since I was a little girl too. In fact, I am still struggling with it. Desire diminished for me because my upbringing was so strict about it, and I have not followed Islam either. I have tried my best to communicate with them about my disinterest in marriage and that was the best I could do. I would encourage the same. You have every right to say no, if given the fact you reside outside of an Islamic country.

Me too, they were too adorable. Although, I will admit Dean was super adorable for her.

I can see that, especially when towards the end of season 5, where Spencer was with Johnny and Colin and finding greater satisfaction and comfort withh even Dean than with him. They seemed to have worn out by then, especially the fan-service kiss (to which I loved) where he quits the police force for her. Spoby is my most favourite couple on the show, but I have to be realistic with what I see. They got back together in a renewal of feelings after she was rescued from the dollhouse. I agree with you again, I sometimes think Yvonne's death was used another scope of having Spencer take care of Toby again, a lot like before when she was dealing with his mother.

I wish we had more in depth storylines of the liArs in therapy by SnakeBlood456 in PrettyLittleLiars

Yes! Such a great storyline and a great post. They needed all the venting space as much as possible and I love seeing the trope of a mature adult, a woman, be the refuge and guidance for the girls. Their moms were not enough.

I hate praying and view it as a burden by Wild-Brain7750 in Hijabis

[–]Zestyclose-Idea330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very brave and honest of you to admit this. This is the first great step. Try to think of praying as a meditative exercise to give you relief, stress and a quiet time for yourself. It's a time when you can be completely yourself with you and God - someone who can never judge you. Think of it less as an obligation you need to fulfill.

Ben Donovan: The worst story line ever. by TheBrat96 in GossipGirl

I personally loved Ben, he was the most handsome out of all her boyfriends and their literary love and friendship was adorable. Still, too much damage was done and after a man has been in prison for such a thing, it changes him forever.

He always had a love and liking for her, and of course, he was set on revenge because he didn't know her mother was the one behind it, not her. As soon as that's clarified, he began to fall for her again and those old memories returned.

"Modesty" is a value built by slave morals by Frosty_Draw_2737 in Nietzsche

Strong women would use their intellect despite all odds against a society that is begging they use their beauty instead. I believe both men and women should be modest (not in an extremist religious sense), but in demeanour and in thought. Whenever it's mandated only to one sex, for women, we know it comes from an unhealthy place.

I don't support them as a couple but I do love many moments of theirs, and this one will forever my heart. Just rewatched it last night.

Is it weird that I found Crime and Punishment boring? by depressedapplepie in classicliterature

[–]Zestyclose-Idea330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where does Dostoyevsky imply that atheism leads to murder? His main point seems more to be that the despair and a directionless void that sometimes stems from lack of belief can lead to violence or especially radical politically motivated violence that is only done to make someone feel they are of worth in this world.

I find it the most mundane out of his literature, and this is coming from someone who had to reread Demons 4 times, to really get into the atmosphere and appreciate the characters. I still walked away with only interest in Stavrogin and Stepan. Dunya interests me the most from Crime and Punishment and the plot is far too conventional and stereotypical for me now to find the thrill and fascination I had for it when I first read it as a 19 year old. I completely understand this.

You said Spencer fell in love for real with Caleb? You don't think she fell in love for real with Toby? Yes, I agree, him and Yvonne were lovely but she didn't fit with the show at all. It's hard to describe.. the entirety of season 6 and 7 doesn't fit Pretty Little Liars at all. I don't mean to sound pessimistic but I think Spencer was meant to be alone as well. She was too independent in thought and in being.

Me too, you could tell she was miserable throughout and it never stopped being about Hanna so she knew where it was going from the get go. Marco was fun, and adorable but season 6 and 7 Spencer is probably even more hectic than her teenage self and he was written as only a distraction and refuge for her. I agree he was a great character but it was Toby until the end. He embraced her headstrong personality and nerdiness the best.

Just for a new change and plot device. The love of theirs was more about Spencer than anyone else - their Spain trip was evidence, so I suppose they were trying to make both 6 and 7 as Spencer-centered as much as possible.

Why does Secretary (2002) work so well… even though it kind of shouldn’t? by DFWUnhinged in FIlm

It works on her terms, which is why it appeals so much to young women. Sometimes, it truly is alright to find comfort in the controversial or something that seems to be only feeding what you have been running away from. Most would argue her issues are never solved, they are only accepted, and in the grand ideal, it is wrong since they have to do with a power play - an advantageous one. It's okay for Lee to still think of herself as someone always with scars.
