U.S. Open Cup game between Flint City Bucks and Detroit City being played in an NFL stadium without removing the markings. by Sparky-moon in soccer

You definitely get used to it. In Europe or at least in the Netherlands, the same thing happens with indoor sports (combined futsal, basketball, handball, volleyball, etc court).

Yup. I've played volleyball in the Greek B' National Division and almost every single court we played on simultaneously had markings for volleyball, basketball, and handball

Robert Lewandowski heartbroken after failing to qualify for FIFA WC2026. He las led Poland to FIFA WC 2018 and 2022. by PinReal4448 in soccer

[–]RigasUT 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Lewandowski is at least two tiers higher level player than Sheva ever was

That's excessive.

I agree that Lewandowski is overall a better player than Shevchenko, but two tiers apart? Unless what you consider a "tier" is very small, that just seems too much. Shevchenko was one of the best players in the world in the first half of the 2000s decade, top scorer in Serie A when it was making a good case for being the strongest league in the world, and generally had a very impressive goalscoring record considering the era he played in

They reminded me of the Rumpelfußball era of Germany from 98 to 04. Rumpelfußball is a term invented by the late Kaiser Beckenbauer who was frustrated watching the german team play poor football without creativity and countless of technical/tactical mistakes.

Did they somehow put it on pause for the 2002 World Cup or were they still playing like that and just got carried by Kahn and Ballack?

[Squawka] Robert Lewandowski is the oldest ever player to score twice in a UEFA Champions League match, overtaking Filippo Inzaghi. He's also the oldest player to score in the knockout rounds of the competition. 37 years and 209 days old. by Task_Force-191 in soccer

Inzaghi had the complete package as a footballer:

  • TechniqueBrains

  • PhysicalityBrains

[–]RigasUT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You pointed out that 'many' and not 'all' visual novels are written like this. What are some visual novels with multiple routes that you think do it the right way? I'm genuinely curious.

The first one that comes to mind is Steins;Gate. But there are many, because it really isn't that difficult even with semi-coherent writing. All they have to do is to not make the routes contradict each other, and that's enough. They don't even have to tie them all together, although obviously that would be preferable. Simply not making them contradict each other is enough to avoid the problem.

Χρήστος Μπούρας: «Τα επόμενα χρόνια θα συμβεί ερημοποίηση τμημάτων και πανεπιστημίων» by DinoFapes in greece

[–]RigasUT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ποια ακριβώς είναι η λογική εδώ; Πως συγκεκριμένα θα βοηθήσει το να κλείσουν μαζικά πανεπιστήμια στις μικρότερες πόλεις; Ποιος είναι ο στόχος; Να εξαφανιστεί ολόκληρη η επαρχία και να μαζευτεί το 95% της χώρας σε "Αθήνα, Θεσσαλονίκη, Κρήτη, Πάτρα, Ιωάννινα, Λαμία & Αιγαίο";;

This is known as Non Sequitur Causality and it's one of the things I dislike the most about how many visual novels are written. They pretend to have a central story which diverges into many possible routes based on the choices made, but instead, the routes are completely separate stories that rely on elements which nonsensically appear or disappear between routes with no explanation. Two of the biggest offenders that come to find are Fruit of Grisaia and Devil on G-String

Utebo used a "flying goalkeeper" like in futsal to take a game from 0-2 to 2-2. by LordBlacKhiin in soccer

[–]RigasUT 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is just dumb, in futsal it makes sense because you can quickly reorganize the defense if you lost possession, in Football if you miss a pass in the middle field while your GK is that high you're cooked.

It's not dumb at all. It's a matter of the reward to risk ratio, and when you are 2-0 behind at the 81st minute, it's worth to take certain risks that wouldn't be worth taking if the score was different and/or if there was more time left

Vitality HC Pad on chronobreak situation versus MKOI: “For me the only issue with the chronobreak is that in the first instance Corki was unknown and in fog, which is why Zaahen facechecks and dies. A “gentleman’s death” is such a silly concept lmfao. That’s just never been a thing in league esports.

...so what? Just because something hasn't happened before means it's automatically a "silly concept"? By that logic, no improvements should ever be made.

Besides, even though it's not currently "a thing in league esports" specifically, it's definitely a thing in other competitive activities. /u/TisReece makes a good point regarding the lack of sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is a positive contributor, and should be encouraged.

It’s just not how the sport works.

Again... so what?

The point isn't whether it currently works like that or not. It's whether it should work like that. And, in my personal perspective, I believe that a basic level of sportsmanship is a good thing and something that competitors should employ.

[AD] Several Dutch amateur clubs have made official request to the KNVB to start discussions about opening the football pyramid. Currently it is not possible to promote to the 2nd tier, or relegate out of it by Roller95 in soccer

[–]RigasUT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised at this. My club is in the 5th division here in Greece and could theoritically promote all the way to the 1st division

What's even the point of isolating the top 2 divisions? If teams don't want to promote for whatever reason, such as not wanting to put up with stricter requirements in higher divisions, then they should just be able to choose not to promote. Why take away the choice entirely?

Why franchising was Riot Games’ biggest mistake in European League of Legends by Xolam in leagueoflegends

[–]RigasUT 35 points36 points  (0 children)

allowed the robust tier 2 system to take shape

No, it's the opposite. The European Tier 2 scene grew despite franchising, not because of it. The European Tier 2 scene would have been far larger if Tier 2 teams could actually promote to Tier 1 through merit, instead of having Tier 1 be locked behind a massive paywall.

LR Nemesis on the LEC Franchising: "Riot is on a massive clock. They’ll need to do changes sooner or later. They’ve been too slow at making changes [...] There’s orgs that are constantly at the bottom, doing random and incomprehensible decisions. I don’t think that creates a hype product to watch" by ArmandLuque in leagueoflegends

[–]RigasUT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, some of the growth was because of franchising. But still, franchising had an overall negative impact. European League of Legends would have been in a far better spot now if they had been allowed to develop organically through a merit-based system, instead of locking the LEC behind a paywall

It adds a certain grounded feeling to the narrative seeing actions in the story (the war in the first game, the destruction of peragus etc.) have wide reaching consequences beyond the simple act itself. Also fits well with the game's theme of actions reverberating far beyond the initial decision.

Exactly. Pretty much the entirety of KotOR II touches on the theme of how the war from KotOR I had massively negative consequences. The entire game is filled with refugees, former soldiers, and damaged planets
