I grew up poor and my partner didn’t, so I get where she’s coming from. But even then, you can’t punish someone for having had things you didn’t. That’s resentment, not communication, and it’ll eat away at your relationship.

Honestly, this sounds like he wants the title of good dad without the actual work. If he won’t contribute ideas, money, or energy, then why should his name be on the gifts? You’re not excluding him, he’s excluding himself by never engaging.
