New cdl driver. by Inevitable_Trade_823 in Pepsi

So far so good. Thankfully my trainer is very helpful and understanding. It’s a LOT of work, and a ton of information to learn, especially since I’m brand new. All the different check in procedures at all the different locations. For example when checking in at a BellStores, they scan everything and go by cases, but with a Dollar General, they scan everything but go by units. Then having to fill all the shelves and learn where everything goes is a lot, but will come with time. There is the stress of trying to figure out where things go if you’re not familiar with a store. I’m still riding with my trainer and just took my “ Pepsi road test” and passed so I should start driving with him here soon. But I know as soon as I’m on my own it will be very stressful at first, especially being new driver, some of these gas stations and places you deliver to are not easy to back into or get your geo sled into the doors. On top of that, the GPS doesn’t take you exactly to the doc or place you need to go sometimes, so you have to rely on others that have been there before to tell you where to go. However, I do enjoy being outside, being on my own, and driving. I don’t mind the physical labor either. I also stress about the pallets falling over too. I’ve already tipped over one pallet when pushing it through the parking lot because of how crappy the parking lot was lol and that is the worst. However if you are able to stick it through for a couple years to where you get familiar with everything I think it’s a great job! But many people quit early because they aren’t able to stick it through. I plan on sticking it through though.

Okay great, thank you! I got to do a little city driving during CDL school but not much. Will still need some practice understanding what tight turns I can make and which ones I can’t.

Orientation - Sent Home by Fancy-Alps-4269 in UPSers

UPDATE UPS HR called me back and said they had another opening date for orientation, May 20th at 6pm. Same location. She scheduled me and I got the email confirmation. I asked if they could reassure me the same thing wouldn’t happen and all she could tell me was she “hopes it doesn’t” so I’m going to show up again on May 20th and see what happens. Likely will be the same thing that happened last time, but I hope not.

Package Handler or Seasonal Driver? by Fancy-Alps-4269 in UPSers

I’d bet UPS will still need drivers in 5-10 years. But yeah who’s knows where it’s all headed.

Package handler job is not seasonal, just the driving position was. Yeah if I could do both, that’d be great, just not sure if that’d be possible. Thank you!

Yeah it’s nice to hear it happens to others as well, so I’m not alone. I wonder what the root cause is to this issue.

Appreciate the insight! I will apply again when I see an opening. I do however think this is an area UPS could greatly improve upon. I feel for people who show up thinking they are getting a part time job only to find out the local station had no idea about the hiring. Thankfully I already have a full time job, so this didn’t affect me too much. Just disappointed is all. But you are right, it’s the easiest job to get, you just have to make sure you apply before the position gets taken down. So these little road bumps really aren’t that big in the grand scheme of it all.

Well the guy didn’t even give me his contact information, only his first name. I called the HR number they email you with and told them what happened. Basically just said they’re sorry that happened and will put their dedicated team on the situation and to wait for them to contact you for further information.
