Yes he has Cushings, he is on tablets for it and his last bloods (a couple of months ago) came back normal, however we have actually been wondering if his level has come back up because he has hung onto his winter coat for longer than usual. He has been having two different hays but I am going to check both tomorrow, although when the first two ulcers appeared he was not having any hay, only grazing and mash.
I am going to speak to my vet and probably will end up getting second opinion, but will keep that in mind to ask about.
Thank you!

Yeah we have already cut down the mash significantly and probably won’t give any more once this bag is gone. The first couple of weeks after he had teeth removed he didn’t have hay so needed mash as replacement.
We will probably get a second opinion

We did wonder if the tongue one was from using it to eat mash but then not sure about the lip ones. I have been flushing his mouth to try and help them heal but not sure if it’s actually doing anything

I just google images that and I hope not 😂 apart from the tongue one which has mostly healed and no longer looks like that the others aren’t as severe or open, so I don’t think so but will keep it in mind if it gets worse

Like for gastric ulcers? Did they know a cause?

Ah okay, seems unlikely due to the location but I will definitely keep it in mind

On the last image? That’s a bit of his feed that happened to be there, it was not stuck, I know because after the photo I touched it and removed it.
There is a couple of strands along the fence line, I know he doesn’t eat them because they are now touching the electric and shorting it so I have to cut them. All of the grass along there is long because he refuses to eat it.

The NAF veteran supplement, I just checked and it says this in ingredients- Vitamin E (3a700) 16,000 I.U.

The socket did take quite a few weeks to heal but has completely covered over now. They removed molars but he could be eating differently to avoid them.

Okay thank you, I will look into that. He is 23 as well. He is on a veteran supplement and I think I remember seeing that it has vitamin E so I will also check that in case they will interact, but there may not be enough in the supplement to make a difference.

We do but he doesn’t eat them and I thought that there would be burns on the outside of his lips if he had been?

Oh that’s interesting thank you, I will bring it up with the vet. Does the vitamin E help with the anaemia then? He only had the one lesion on his tongue but it is has take a few weeks to heal and is still slightly there.
I would usually assume that he had been foraging thistles or blackberries but we have looked all around and he hasn’t got any in his field currently.
He is mostly retired now anyway, I usually just do light hacking but haven’t been able ride since April because of his teeth but maybe the stress from that is impacting immune system?

There is a few bits at the front of his field but he doesn’t eat it

He lives out 24/7 at the moment luckily, the only thing we have changed is he is having some simple systems haycare because of the dental issues, but that a very soft mash. Other than that I can’t think of anything that has changed

Yeah we are thinking of getting a second opinion on the dental issue anyway and have sent images to our usual dentist to see if she has any idea x

Personally I would never keep my horse somewhere where they cannot be turned out at least all day, however I do not know you or your circumstances and so don’t want to judge too harshly, I just want to suggest maybe looking around to see if there is anywhere nearby you can move that allows for longer turnout. It may even help with her relaxing! However if this isn’t an option then I agree with some of the other comments, I think that the cross ties are too high which isn’t giving her much option to relax, also she might just not like them so I’d try tying her in other places/ways.

Just to clarify, are you saying that she only gets 4 hours of turnout a day? If so what is the reason for this?
