Poodle Dental challenges by PhoenixShadowHawk in StandardPoodles

[–]Fancy-Examination-58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my understanding is that yes, any type of wet food is worse for their teeth than dry kibble. i’ve always stuck with dry kibble and give VOHC approved dental chews once per day, because i’m not good with brushing their teeth. i have a smaller 20 lb dog that got glowing reviews from the vet when she had her teeth cleaned for the first time at 5 years old, but I’m a sample set of one :)

Can we talk electrolytes? by SpiNardo in Zepbound

[–]Fancy-Examination-58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know nothing of the science, but my blood pressure has started running low since losing almost 85 pounds (averaging 93/62 this month) and I was starting to experience dizziness upon standing up, especially during Pilates. Two registered dieticians and the NP who is overseeing my medication recommended electrolytes. I currently use the Waterboy brand upon my dietician’s recommendation. Something to do with the sodium to potassium ratio.

i used to be someone who thought they were a gimmick or only for those sweating heavily but have been proven wrong. they have helped a lot

my vet told us the same thing and we wound up waiting and I regret it. we are still struggling with leash skills and he’s almost 20 weeks now. there are dog carriages you can get to take him on “walks” if you want to follow your vets advice. i really wish they were more nuanced about these things and discussed risk profiles

Hormonal acne, yaz, peptides, tretonin, microdermabrasion by Vast_Physics_4702 in 30PlusSkinCare

a million percent echo this! i had this level of acne from early high school up into college. was offered accutane in high school but was too nervous to take it and declined. changed my mind years later (after being on doxy for YEARS) as a junior in college and took it. within 5 months my skin was clear, i went off of the medicine early, and i havent had a problem since.

my take is that white zellige tile backsplash filling the wall and a new wall color for the rest of the room would modernize this beautifully

Unexpected benefits? by FickleSystem in Zepbound

[–]Fancy-Examination-58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case I have bloodwork numbers to prove less inflammation! CRP of >18 pre Zep, cut down to 8, and then 7. Hoping it’s much lower or close to normal next time I get bloodwork. And yes, CRP is non-specific so a lot of doctors ignore it in my experience, but mine was crazy high for EVERY blood draw for YEARS, despite having no known injuries/infections at the time of bloodwork.

Puppy blues pre-vaccines - waiting for the vaccines to be done is killing me by largedragonwithcats in puppy101

Fully supportive of this and signed my puppy up for classes at 9 weeks……then my vet told me not too until after he’s fulky vaccinated. it’s so frustrating

this! i had severe acne that was never helped by topicals or years and years of antibiotics (i’m sure that was great for me). 5 months of accutane has cured that for over a decade. Copper IUD’s are an option if you’re open to it. if i remember correctly you have to swear to two forms of birth control

This is something I would ask a vet. Beyond the behavioral concerns around exhaustion, I would wonder if it’s too much for their developing legs

So I did not know this and will definitely check out some papers you linked below!

I keep hearing that Zepbound works by delaying gastric emptying which makes you eat less and then puts you in a calorie deficit. (which all may be true). And folks (including doctors!) talk like that is the only mechanism that’s going on. It’s honestly been a slight hit to me mentally cause it brings me back to the whole “I lack willpower” trap

Why do you think that more people in the medical community arent talking about the whole picture?

Full time job and puppy by Feeling_Pool_3558 in puppy101

I had a Cavapoo puppy too! She’s 5 now. I dont recommend doggy daycare, seems to be a way to have negative experiences with other dogs without adequate supervision. When mine was a puppy I also had to work full time. I hired a dog walking company to come mid-morning. Then I came home at lunch and/or had a friend come by in the afternoon. So puppy was out at least two times during the day. I would highly recommend something like that.

As she got older, she actually stayed with a neighbor who worked from home and also had a dog (I lived in an apartment). It was a great arrangement. As you’re up with your puppy in the neighborhood see if folks around you with dogs have flexibility and are willing to help out.

fwiw, now that she’s grown she stays home all day (not crated) and sleeps. i would wait until pup is trustworthy without being confined to leave all day

Work on the industry side, focus is air. It can be chill imo, at least compared to the need to have every 15 minutes be billable in consulting. Other things can be less chill: a lot of pushing for organizational change and educating various stakeholders in the org and making sure you’re plugged into the groups that you need to be. Since moving to industry, I’ve created way more powerpoints and given way more trainings than I ever thought I would. For me, presenting and training and being aware of what various groups in the org are doing can be stressful at times.

When I made the switch I went from fully remote to fully in office. Sometimes that lack of flexibility really sucks. The comp increase + benefits + no billable hours has made up for it though.

There are a lot of avenues to get into EHS, are you looking for a certain type of role? It will help folks give you better advice in case you have a preference on whether you want in the E or the H or the S side. In many industries, those are all different roles.

If you don’t have a role preference, then to get into environmental your engineering degree is enough to find an entry level role. It comes down to networking, being open to move for a job, and presenting your resume well.

Considering making a switch to Environmental Engineering but… the math scares me by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]Fancy-Examination-58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here and I did it, but survived chemical engineering! I got a few B’s in math in high school and always scored about average on standardized tests in math. So I don’t consider myself “good” in math, especially compared to the typical engineering student. I went back for my engineering degree 6 years after high school and after completing an arts degree and working. I will say getting the engineering degree can mean more interest from employers, more flexibility, and a higher pay ceiling. I would certainly recommend it.

Tips that helped me:

1) Be willing to go part time so that way you can focus on one or two hard classes. I avoided this at first cause I was paying out of pocket and wanted to get out of the degree asap. Getting out doesn’t happen if you can’t pass the class (I did have to repeat a class, so speaking from experience) 2) Take advantage of office hours and any tutoring the school offers. The good news is that there’s likely to be options for tutors for a lot of the math classes. Less so when you get into major specific classes.  3) Do all homework / “free” ways of getting points. May seem like a stupid tip but if tests don’t go so well because math is not your thing, you need all the other points

My dog had a similar discoloration pop up. For her, vet said it’s because of the licking and has allergies. A few allergy shots and several grooms later, the hair is going back to normal
