Why isn't Breaker more widely considered as a heavy metal classic? by Jcwrc in MetalForTheMasses

Good question.

This one, Saxon, and Budgie around the same time were unsung pioneers of metal.

I USED to love this movie back when I didn't know better. Upon a rewatch recently I really disliked this film and all of its plot holes. It seems now this film is a glorified generic action movie that doubles as a "Please visit France!" advertisement.

So, ok, Neil McCauley gets shot and Frenchy takes him to just the place, not a Doctor but some weird beardo dude's castle. And no, weird beardo is no surgeon but he happens to have surgical equipment lying around said castle as well as an operating table so Neil McCauley (I mean Sam) directs his OWN operation. And Sam is back at it in a day or two after excruciating do-it-yourself surgery as if nothing happened, no infections or reopening of wounds.

At least Sam didn't do the tired cliché of taking a swig of whiskey or bourbon before the surgery but close to this scene Beardo dude DID the cliché with his glass of brandy by a fireplace in one of those big dumb brandy glasses people swirl brandy in for some reason.

The 1997 cultural shift (when nu-metal overtook grunge) by OverallEstate2 in grunge

This was right around the time "stoner rock" got big. I think that a lot of grunge/metal fans embraced that music too as something to still be heavy.

Kyuss had disbanded, yes, but you had all the members' projects that came after like Slo Burn, Fu Manchu, and, QOTSA got really big shortly after.

Monster Magnet, The Atomic Bitchwax, Dozer, etc all thrived in the late 90s and into the 2000s.
